Scope of Position


The Revenue Cycle for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is responsible for providing excellent customer service while completing the following responsibilities accurately and efficiently; processing patient demographic and insurance information, scheduling appointments, procedures, surgeries, and admissions, and continuously supporting patient and payer billing tasks and cash collection responsibilities. Areas within the Revenue Cycle include pre-registration, registration, pre-certification, financial clearance and counseling, financial assistance, scheduling, billing, claims follow-up, customer service and cash collection. The primary responsibility of staff within the Revenue Cycle is to optimally perform duties that ensure the collection of net revenue for services rendered while providing top of class customer service. The Scheduling Senior Coordinator functions as an integral member of a care team, who reflects a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The scheduling coordinator provides supportive services that are directed towards achievement of patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient's involvement in his/her own plan of care, and improving service levels and decreasing cost.






Position Summary



The Surgery Scheduling Senior Coordinator is an advanced position within the Revenue Cycle that provides non-medical support to patients clinical care team members and the organization. In addition to the standard duties required by a PAC I/PAC II, this multi-dimensional position demonstrates advanced expertise in product, process, or a service line area where patient care coordination across multiple disciplines is practiced and knowledge and understanding of multiple software systems is required to coordinate such care. This position is responsible for providing consumers (referring providers, clinical staff, payers and patients) with accurate, up-to-date information regarding products, services and procedures, specifically focusing on ambulatory departments. Position may include providing revenue cycle support for multiple new and return appointments and/or other appointments such as pre-surgical/procedural testing and consults. Position assures accurate appointments/surgeries/procedures are scheduled, accurate demographic and insurance information has been collected to support clinical and financial needs, and if needed, the Scheduling Coordinator is able to perform full registration duties in addition to scheduling and coordination activities. A Scheduling Senior Coordinator provides ongoing support and effective communication to physicians and other clinical team members, patients, and patient support systems by coordinating their requests and organizing and communicating in such a way that is clear and concise for all. A Scheduling Senior Coordinator is expected to create a positive first impression and lead by example. The role includes advanced proficiency in multiple EMR platforms and includes but is not limited to scheduling, imaging, and registration systems (Cadence, Optime, and Aria when applicable), ABN, eligibility, document management software, medical imaging software (Ambra), IHIS communication tools (encounters, inbaskets, secure chat), IHIS work queues, and payor platforms etc. The Scheduling Senior Coordinator may also support PAC Lead and Access Management by assisting with training and support for all new staff and student interns when necessary.





Minimum Qualifications




For Hire:



Required: Per CCS Class Specs: High School Diploma or GED. PC Knowledge and interpersonal, verbal, and written communication. Minimum 1.5 years of experience in patient access or similar field. Employee demonstrates strong problem solving and customer service skills. Able to prioritize and coordinator multiple tasks in busy environment.



Preferred: Associates or Bachelor's degree and at least 1.5 years of experience in healthcare setting, existing revenue cycle department of customer service role. Experience with Cadence, Optime Aria, Ambra, and medical terminology preferred. Demonstrates ability to work in multiple systems for assigned tasks, management and reporting.

Maintains knowledge related to patient care issues, quality improvement, cost reduction, and adherence to current policies, procedures, and protocols. Must meet mandatory educational and health requirements, as well as ongoing scheduling and registration competencies. Attend Health System and Departmental In-services, education forums, and meetings as required.
