Job Description:

Job Title: Hanford Office of Communications (HOC) Support

Location: Work shall be conducted at the Department of Energy (DOE) government offices, Hanford Site in Richland, WA. This position may be telework eligible but there will be a 30-day waiting period during which 100% in-office support will be expected.

Citizenship: US Citizenship required

Salary: $43.00 - $53.00 per/hour. You will receive a competitive total rewards package that is applicable to the U.S. only. The compensation range may vary based on years of experience, skillset, educational background and geographical location.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • BS/BA in communications or a related field of study. Six years of experience may be substituted for BS/BA.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience.

Preferred Experience and Capabilities:

  • Demonstrated experience in writing for external audiences about complex or technical topics.
  • Demonstrated familiarity or relevant experience in media strategies and tools.
  • Demonstrated familiarity or relevant experience to interface successfully with senior level management.
  • Demonstrated experience writing and editing in the Associated Press style.
  • Ability to work with government and contractor personnel to problem solve and formulate strategies for success.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Demonstrated familiarity or relevant experience associated with the Hanford Site mission, activities and priorities.

Job Duties:

  • Provide support in critical project areas - Tank Waste Operations (TWO), Waste Treatment Plant (WTP) Construction, WTP Operations, Risk Reduction and Site Services Operations.
  • Develop comprehensive communication strategies on technical subjects to inform and educate internal and external stakeholders, media and the general public.
  • Prepare media engagement materials, usually on a short deadline, requiring research and understanding of technical material.
  • Develop, coordinate, review and approve communication products, including but not limited to press releases, responses to media inquiries, agency newsletters, articles, social media posts, presentations, announcements, fact sheets and fliers on the Hanford Site Cleanup Mission.
  • Assist the HOC staff with the preparation of communications materials for three priority mission themes identified by the Hanford Field Office (HFO) Manager - TWO and treatment for safe disposal, risk reduction and infrastructure operations.
