A Day in the Life Position Description The role will provide senior level medical expertise, inputs to the design, execution and dissemination of clinical evidence, expertise to training and education activities and objective medical oversight to ensure technology and therapy effectiveness and safety throughout the product lifecycle. In addition, this position supports the Acute Care & Monitoring Operating Unit (OU) in advancing our capability to disrupt and lead the market through disease state and therapy expertise, key inputs to strategy and business development activities. The position will work with the Medical Safety Medical Director in the center to support Quality, Regulatory, Research & Development, and Clinical activities. This position also works closely with the Clinical Research & Medical Science (CRMS) leader in the OU, to ensure the development and execution of robust clinical research and medical science strategies, supporting OU priorities. This position reports into the SVP and President and is a member of the Sr. Staff. In addition, this position will work with the other CMOs across MDT in providing leadership on medical and scientific affairs. No direct reports to start but expected to build a small team over time (no specific timeframe; will depend on the impact the CMO makes as first an individual contributor)Position Responsibilities
Clinical Research & Medical Science
Provide medical guidance, support and partnership to the OU in the strategic planning and execution of clinical trials.
Provide strategic guidance on evidence development, evidence dissemination and training and support needs in the field.
Provide medical expertise for key discussions with the FDA, CMS, and other regulatory and reimbursement bodies.
Strategic
Serve as ACM medical representative at major congresses, advisory board meetings, and other key industry panels and events involving key opinion leaders.
Build and maintain relationships in the medical community to identify current and future business opportunities and emerging medical and health care practices.
Actively participate in the OU strategic planning processes; provide collaborative medical support to execute business specific goals and objectives; and provide medical input into the development of new business models to advance OU objectives.
Innovation and Business Development
Consult on theoretical and experimental scientific and technological investigations for advancements or new discoveries.
Consult and provide design input on new and next generation procedural and product design with R&T/R&D.
Provide key subject matter expertise in the identification and pursuit of some or all of the following including strategic business opportunities, mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, alliances, joint ventures, and licensing agreements or evaluation/management of investments in company ventures or entrepreneurial opportunities.
Consults with top management and closely monitors market conditions to ensure new programs, policies and strategic relationships/ partnerships align with overall corporate strategy and takes advantage of market opportunities.
Partners across the business development team and OU Leadership team globally to develop portfolio strategies to balance internal innovation and business development to serve global business needs.
Partner with business development team in providing market, patient population, and physician practice assessments and evaluating external opportunities technically and clinically.
Commercial
Serve as a medical consultant to marketing, commercial, or research program teams and government regulatory agencies.
Partner with Sales and Marketing to develop key messaging and identify and capitalize on current and future business opportunities
Serve as the medical consultant on outward communication/media representation and collaborates with Medical Safety Medical Director on communications related to patient safety and/or device malfunction/quality.
Interface with sales and marketing teams globally to build deeper local market knowledge and connections regarding products and strategies. Support global product launches, training, and customer support plans. Collaborate with geography business leaders to create local strategies to advance appropriate use of our therapies.
Collaborate with Clinical Research & Medical Science, Regulatory, Reimbursement, Healthcare Economics, and Marketing to develop and execute plans to utilize the results of clinical trials and clinical practice to advance business objectives.
In collaboration with the medical science and commercial organizations, serve as a senior consultant and liaison to specialty societies, advisory boards, and key KOL consultants.
Quality and Safety
Engage with the Enterprise Medical Safety Team (Medical Safety Director and Medical Safety Specialist(s) aligned with the OU) on a collaborative and consultative basis to assist in medical deliberation of critical safety issues impacting the business, and recommending action, as needed.
Training and Education
Serve as senior expert consultant for the global field and customer training and education strategies.
Support the definition of customer value propositions (clinical & economic), training and education needs and develops supporting priority programs.
Consults with team that creates training and education programs for Field, Medical and Academic Professionals to increase procedural, technology and product adoption to improve patient outcomes.
Basic Qualifications
Medical Doctor (MD/DO) or equivalent degree with at least 10 years of post-residency clinical experience.
Ideal specialization: anesthesia, intensive care, hospitalist preferred; other internal medicine and surgical specialties may be considered
The candidate must be either ABIM Board Certified or Eligible or possess equivalent specialty certification from an applicable international body, as applicable.
If licensed to practice medicine, the candidate's license must be valid, unrestricted and unchallenged, and the candidate must be in good standing with the licensing body.
5 or more years of patient care experience beyond residency.
15 or more years of relevant clinical experience.
Demonstrated executive leadership experience
Proven oral and written communication skills.
Proven analytical and critical thinking skills.
Experience in successfully working in a multi-functional environment is required
Experience leading teams and driving followership preferred
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
Life sciences industry experience- knowledge of clinical trial management, quality systems, global regulatory experience.
Advanced degree such as MBA, MMM, MHA, MPH
Proven analytical skills working with clinical or research data.
Knowledge of patient safety, quality, clinical research, strategic planning, health biostatistics or epidemiology.
Strong "influence management" skill set demonstrated in both the healthcare delivery and
corporate environment.
Demonstrated success in effectively managing teams, executing projects, and communicating expectations.
Demonstrated ability to lead collaboratively in a diverse, global, matrixed organization.
Knowledgeable of U.S. Food and Drug Law and regulatory, device safety and/or regulatory/clinical research.
Experience interacting with FDA or other regulatory agencies.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$337,500-$562,500
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico. Base pay is based on numerous factors and may vary by job-related knowledge, skills, experience, etc. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
