Position Summary:

Directs and provides classroom and clinical instruction in a variety of settings. Core work functions are completed by performing the following duties and other duties as directed. Average workload: 12 - 15 workload units.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge and clinical expertise in teaching assigned nursing courses (clinical and didactic).
  • Collaboratively works with faculty, students, and staff in facilities to assure positive clinical learning experiences for student nurses.
  • Provides student advisement, holds weekly office hours and counsels student advisees as needed.
  • Assumes leadership roles with faculty in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of curriculum.
  • Communicate with department chair and colleagues regarding student issues and progression in the program.
  • Seeks leadership roles within the nursing program, College of Aviation, Science and Nursing, and University committees.
  • Engages in scholarship and service to forward the discipline of Nursing.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Preferred Skills:

Familiarity with simulation-based learning and virtual clinical education tools.
Experience in a variety of nursing specialties (e.g., medical-surgical, critical care, maternal-child health).
Strong knowledge of current healthcare trends and evidence-based practices.

Physical and Emotional Qualifications:

Standing and walking for prolonged periods of time
Lifting up to 50 lbs
Ability to speak clearly to communicate instructions and clarify understanding.
Hearing adequate to discern subtle changes in heart, lung, and bowel sounds.
Visual acuity to allow for accurate observation and assessment of student performance.
Hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate technology and dexterity to demonstrate and perform nursing skills.
Consistent temperament capable of adapting, managing, and prioritizing multiple stressors simultaneously.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master of Science in Nursing
Terminal nursing degree preferred
Teaching experience preferred
Experience in specialty of maternal-child nursing and obstetrical/gynecological and or pediatrics strongly preferred
Ability and willingness to teach in classroom, clinical, and simulation settings
