Job Summary



The Lead - OSW Engineering is a key role within the Offshore Renewables Business, focusing on the delivery of large-scale offshore wind projects in the US and overseas.


Belonging to the Engineering Management team and reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Lead - OSW Engineering will be acting as the Project Deputy Engineering Manager and will be responsible for implementing robust, effective, and efficient engineering strategies and plans for the project, complying with company and business engineering standards, technical acceptance criteria, applicable rules and regulations and ensuring quality, best practices and excellent H&SE performance are applied.

Your role will be integral to our global offshore business organization, with activities spanning the US and multiple countries worldwide.



Key Responsibilities



The Lead - OSW Engineering will collaborate closely with the Engineering Manager and will have autonomy in executing specific tasks and roles. Additionally, this role involves working within a global business with activities spanning various locations in the US and overseas, requiring effective coordination with teams across different project locations.





  • The Lead - OSW Engineering will be responsible for the following Engineering Management Processes:

    • Develop and implement engineering management processes, including Interface and Division of Responsibilities management, Design Change control, Decision tracking, and Design Reviews and Assurance.







  • Progress Monitoring: Ensure cohesive and consistent progress of engineering activities across the project.





  • Design Compliance: Ensure that the design adheres to applicable standards and requirements.





  • Lessons Learned and Best Practices: Implement lessons learned and best practices from previous projects.





  • Complex Problem Resolution: Lead the resolution of complex and multidisciplinary engineering challenges.





  • Communication and Reporting: Maintain effective communication and reporting within the project team and with Avangrid/Iberdrola business.





  • Review and approve engineering work to ensure compliance with regulatory specifications, contract requirements and company standards.






  • Support the management engineering activities:





  • Certification and Verification Activities: Oversee certification and verification processes related to the project.





  • Site Conditions Data: Utilize ground, metocean, and wind resource data as a basis for design development.





  • Electrical Design Management.





  • Geographic Information System (GIS).





  • Systems Integrations Management.





  • Interface Management






  • Engineering Strategy and Assurance: Execute the engineering management strategy and processes to ensure the project meets design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning requirements. Implement necessary engineering processes throughout the project lifecycle, collaborating with the project team to maximize lessons learned and best practices.






  • Cost Control and Optimization: Manage cost control and plan project impacts related to the Engineering Management scope of work. Identify opportunities for reducing/ improving project CAPEX, planning, and risk profile.






  • Technical Issue Resolution: Resolve technical/engineering issues within key project packages on a day-to-day basis. Handle ad-hoc projects promptly without losing focus on ongoing workload.






  • Offshore Standards and Quality: Lead the implementation of offshore standards, lessons learned procedures, tools, and best practices. Ensure large-scale offshore windfarm multi-contract work packages are delivered according to specification, budget, and program while maintaining safety.






  • Risk Assessment and Solutions: Advise Engineering Manager, Package Managers and or project director on technical/specialist risks and recommended solutions.




Required Qualifications




Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline (higher level degree, e.g., MSc, desirable).


Experience:



  • Demonstrated Engineering experience and knowledge to solve complex engineering assignments (7+ years), ideally in offshore wind projects, or offshore oil & gas projects.

  • Experience in delivering large packages/projects, including contract management, program management, cost control, and risk management.


Competencies:



  • Advanced conceptual knowledge in Engineering Discipline.

  • Understanding of relevant engineering processes (design, manufacture, transport, installation, commissioning, and operations) for large-scale utilities (e.g., Avangrid/Iberdrola).

  • Strong planning and analysis skills, anticipating problems and implementing mitigating solutions.

  • Rigorous approach to quality, data accuracy, audit, and record retention.

  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills, summarizing key project parameters and drivers.

  • Proficiency in MS Office systems and other IT-based project management software.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations in construction projects.

Preferred Qualifications




Education:



  • Chartered, PE, or working towards Chartered/PE status (or equivalent).

  • Project Management Certification
