The Director of Choral Studies will serve as the artistic leader of the Frost School of Music choral program, overseeing all activities associated with choral performance at a preeminent school of music. The mission of the Director shall be to determine and realize the artistic vision for the Choral Studies program; maintain the Frost School's presence as a leader in choral music on the national stage; foster innovation and growth within the choral idiom; and engage in global and hemispheric musical leadership.
Primary duties will include at least the following: (a) Conduct the Frost Chorale and other choral ensembles as needed; (b) Provide graduate and undergraduate instruction in conducting and related courses; (c) Supervise research and recital performances of MM and DMA students in choral conducting; (d) Develop and maintain an active performance and/or creative profile commensurate with rank. Secondary duties may include: (a) Produce research, publications, and other scholarly endeavors in choral music; (b) Collaborate with other members of the Frost Vocal Department in the recruiting, managerial, and service activities as per departmental need; (c) Teaching other courses based on interest and departmental need.
Full-time, open rank, tenure-track appointment as Director of Choral Studies.
A DMA (or its equivalent), extensive experience as a conductor and educator, and exceptional musical and teaching skills are required.
Full-time appointment effective August 15, 2025. The salary is competitive.
The University of Miami is a private, independent, comprehensive university with an enrollment of approximately 19,000 students from around the world. The main campus is located in Coral Gables, a residential suburb of Miami. The Frost School of Music has an enrollment of approximately 885 majors in 31 programs leading toward B.A., B.M., B.S., AD, M.M., M.S., SPED, DMA and PhD degrees. These programs are served by approximately 92 full-time and 45 part-time faculty, plus 139 graduate teaching assistants.
