Role Definition
Caterpillar's Integrated Drivetrain Division (IDT) designs, validates, manufactures, and supports mechanical and electric drivetrain components and systems used across the full Caterpillar product line. This position is for an Embedded Product Analyst - Senior Engineering Specialist who will take ownership of the Drivetrain Collaboration Council (DCC) (40%), cover various Integrated Drivetrain product and business analytics (40%), and provide stewardship of high value technical information powertrain design tools, assist in the review of invention notification forms and competitive patents, and assist in Senior Technology Leadership Forum (STLF) and other project management (20%).
Analytics is becoming increasingly valuable in the execution of NPI and CPI, the management of our factories and supply base, the support of our products in the field, and in the execution of data-based decision making. We are looking for someone interested in and willing to learn to manipulate and extract value from relational databases to maintain or increase our throughput of new analytics tools. The DCC is a critical business process used to assess and drive organizational consensus on NPI and CPI project readiness, the analyst will manage and execute the process and be a member of the subject matter expert team. Additionally, the position will lead various special projects to deploy new resources, enact organizational change, or engage internal or external resources to improve Integrated Drivetrain business, with a portfolio that will vary over time.
Responsibilities
Assume responsibility for the Drivetrain Collaboration Council (DCC), a foundational design oversight team providing support for NTI, NPI, and CPI programs. Manage the schedule, lead the meetings, and collect feedback from participants; participate in the meeting as a technical subject matter expert.
Support multiple NPI and CPI teams as a technical subject matter expert on torque converter, transmission, or axle systems and components. The SME support portfolio will be balanced among the engineering team based on expertise and availability and will vary over time.
Become a subject matter expert on Caterpillar powertrain data analytics. Provide analytics to aid in the NTI, NPI, CPI, Operations, maintenance, and business activities of IDT, including Aftermarket Growth support.
Learn the existing data structures used in or parallel to Caterpillar Integrated Drivetrain, maintain and/or execute new tools using new or existing data, champion projects to develop new analyses, new tools, and/or new data streams including condition monitoring.
Ideate and champion transformative analytics projects with broad business impact, mentor teams on the use of tools and analytic data.
Assume responsibility for key design related IP processes, including the management of design processes stored in the High Value Vault, the review process for invention notification forms and the review of related competitive patents.
Coordinate portfolio management for the IDT entries for STLF, Chairman's Award, and other business processes. This aspect of the role will aid in providing the extended IDT organization with knowledge continuity of key process tools.

Top Candidates will also have
Product experience in upper and lower powertrain across multiple product families and multiple component areas, with increasing levels of responsibility. Extensive participation across all phases of multiple NTI, NPI, and/or CPI projects.
Demonstrated success in solving complex upper and lower powertrain problems, the application of design, simulation, and validation tools and processes.
A demonstrated ability to generate the value story for analytic and condition monitoring tools including identifying the opportunity for tools and then enacting and using the analytic or condition monitoring measurements and tools to solve critical problems or business issues.
Experience in the development and deployment of analytic tools, including identifying and integrating data sources, recognizing and concepting needed tools, developing meaningful views, and driving adoption of the tools. Business intelligence tool experience (Tableau or PowerBI) and coding experience will benefit the candidate (Python, SQL, C++, FORTRAN, etc.).
Experience with IP management and assessment. Experience with or a willingness to learn the basics of HDPS and CVT design synthesis to enable knowledge management. Experience with managing projects and budget with broad performing teams.
