Assistant Teaching Professor in Exercise Science

Summary

The School of Applied Human Development invites applications for a qualified rank, non-tenure track, Assistant Teaching Professor in Exercise Science with a start date of August 2025. This is a nine-month, renewable appointment.

Bowling Green State Universitys Exercise Science program is a nationally accredited bachelors degree program preparing students for careers in exercise science. Undergraduate majors can specialize in exercise programming or sports medicine. Our programs greatest strength is providing opportunities for undergraduate research, internships, and the exercise testing of athletes, patients, clients, and the community. These hands-on experiences help students gain the real-world skills needed to be successful in the profession or in graduate school.

The School of Applied Human Development is a multidisciplinary school within the College of Education and Human Development that is dedicated to communicating, advancing, and applying knowledge that fosters the well-being of individuals and families. There are approximately 800 students in the undergraduate programs of Exercise Science, Fashion Merchandising and Product Development, Human Development and Family Science, Interior Design, Sport Management, and Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management; and in the graduate programs of Athletic Training and Human Movement and Sport. The school is supported by approximately thirty-seven full-time faculty and staff.

The College of Education and Human Development, BGSUs founding college, is the home to a dynamic group of graduate and undergraduate programs, housed across three academic units: the School of Applied Human Development; the School of Counseling, Higher Education, Leadership, and Foundations; and the School of Inclusive Teacher Education. Approximately 150 full-time faculty and staff serve over 3,000 undergraduate students and over 1,000 graduate students. The College promotes and supports a community of inclusion, collaboration, and respect for students, faculty, and staff. Essential Functions

Primary Functions

  • Teach undergraduate courses in the Exercise Science program.
  • Contribute to the school, college, university, and profession through service and engagement activities.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Teach effectively in a variety of content areas related to exercise science, such as functional anatomy, biomechanics, therapeutic modalities, orthopedic assessment, therapeutic exercise, or therapeutic medications and health conditions.
  • Provide service to the program, school, college, university, and professional associations.
  • Advise undergraduate students.
  • Supervise internship students in the Exercise Science program.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Earned masters degree in Exercise Science or a related field. Degree must be conferred prior to appointment in August 2025.
  2. Three years of professional experience in the field.


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Ph.D. in one of the fields identified above.
  2. Evidence of effective teaching experience at the university level.
  3. Earned Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification.
