JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Strategy and Communications Officer, the Grant Writer primary responsibilities include writing, preparation of Federal, State and privately funded proposals, and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing, responding to, and managing funding and planning opportunities. The position will also be responsible for performing other duties as assigned by the Chief Planning and Development Officer. The position requires specialized skills and the ability to work well as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and substantial independent judgement.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Grant and Fund Development
Develops and writes Federal grants and ensures compliance with all reporting requirements associated with those contracts or grants.
Develops and writes State grant applications and ensures compliance with all reporting requirements associated with these contracts or grants. Assist other SCHC departments in the development of grant applications and/or reporting on grant related activities related Federal, State, Managed Care or private grants that have been obtained to support those services. Assesses community demographics, population profile and industry trends; and contributes findings to Strategic Planning process and other planning activities. Maintains and implements funding calendar activities. Maintains grants management tracking sheet/system. Reviews requests for proposals (RFPs) for eligibility and fit for SCHC. Assists with the tracking of pending and submitted proposals. Creates data spreadsheets, tables, maps, and graphs in connection to grant writing, reports, and general planning activities. Provides direct assistance to Chief Strategy and Communications Officer and the Grants Administrator, including reviewing proposal and/or reports, formatting, packaging proposals, and assists in the writing and preparations of more complex proposals. Prepares simple budgets and assists in the preparation of more complex budgets. Conducts literature searches, data searches, data and other research activities in support of grant writing and planning activities. Works closing with Grants Administrator Schedules meetings and arranges site visits from funders and other dignitaries. Serves as point of contact person between SCHC and the various States and Federal agencies, assuring that SCHC responds to all agency inquires and request for information in an accurate and timely fashion.
Organizational Development and Planning Support
Maintains strong relationship with private foundations and participates in various foundation activities as assigned. Develops private foundation applications as determined by organization and completes all prerequisite and post application reporting. Works with the Chief Strategy and Communications Officer on the update and development of the organizational Needs Assessments within the scope of program planning. Assist in the development of the programs scope of project and updates and changes in scope. Participates in the process for annual Planning and Development activities, and coordinates with other organizational functions. Assists in the preparation of work plans and tasks, schedules and assist with project management duties, files correspondence and other records and resource materials. Provides support to the Chief Strategy and Communications Officer and Grant Administrator with questionnaires and surveys as requested from external sources. Supports work with HPSA (Health Professional Shortage Area) application and maintains updates. Assists with logistics of special projects. Collects and researches data. Prepares data for communication to stakeholders in reports and presentations. Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth and development. Is supportive of promoting the organizations mission and goal statements on a professional level, and within the community. Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong knowledge of grant writing and working with government and quasi government entities for reporting purposes. Comprehensive knowledge of research, ability to distinguish and identify funding opportunities, and a proven track record in securing funding. Ability to deal effectively with highly diverse groups of individuals. Must possess a strong knowledge of the community we serve and be able to work with minimal direction. Should be able to work in an ever-changing environment which has changing pressures and deadlines. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations. Ability to manage computer databases, query databases and generate reports. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to create and compute rate, ratio, and percentages, and to create and interpret graphs and charts. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Experience using software programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ability to learn new software applications. Knowledge of primary and secondary data collection sources and techniques (surveys, focus groups, Census, etc.), literature searches, and data presentation techniques (graphs, tables).
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Bachelors degree with 5 years or more of relevant experience.
