As the Director, Midwest Regional Office, you will be at the forefront of advancing clean transportation across the Midwest. In this leadership role, you will manage a portfolio of technology programs, lead business development efforts, and cultivate a strong stakeholder network to drive CALSTART's mission. You will shape and execute strategic operational plans, engage in high-level client relations, and align regional policies with organizational goals. Through grant writing, stakeholder outreach, and collaborative program management, you'll support CALSTART's goal of advancing zero-emission technologies while building a high-performing team and fostering an inclusive, innovative environment.



What You'll Do:


  • Lead and manage medium to large technology programs

  • Oversee program coordination, client relations, stakeholder outreach, and grant writing

  • Drive business development, building strong networks and relationships with stakeholders, public/private clients, and partners.

  • Develop and execute operational strategies aligned with CALSTART's clean transportation and mobility goals in the Midwest, including policy alignment.

  • Guide the Midwest Regional team to achieve organizational targets for 2030 and beyond, envisioning and implementing innovative opportunities.

  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment; recruit and build effective teams; and deliver high-quality reports and presentations.




What You'll Bring to the Table:


  • Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience in transportation, clean energy, advanced vehicle tech, or environmental industries; strong track record in developing and managing government contracts.


  • Skills & Abilities: Strong initiative and strategic vision, passion for clean transportation, ability to work independently and in teams, and capable of managing multiple programs.


  • Communication & Industry Knowledge: Effective communicator skilled in building partnerships and familiar with regional industry and political dynamics.


  • Technical Proficiency: Competency with emerging technologies, Microsoft Office, and project budgeting tools; ability to engage diverse stakeholders.


  • Travel & Engagement: Willingness to travel within the Midwest and nationwide as needed.




Desired Qualifications:


  • Proactive Leadership: Creative problem-solver with the ability to navigate fast-paced environments and leverage a strong network of industry and government contacts.


  • Specialized Expertise: Knowledge of zero-emission transportation technologies, financial modeling, policy analysis, and areas like environmental justice or workforce development.


  • Advanced Education & Funding Awareness: Advanced degree preferred in related fields; familiarity with funding opportunities at federal, state, and local levels. Experience managing complex government programs is a plus.



$117,260 - $140,712 a year


CALSTART values transparency and strives to provide as much information regarding compensation as possible. The complete salary range for this role is $117,260 - $140,712. We determine pay based on several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, education, internal equity and other factors relevant to the job
