Description: Position : Plant Engineer (Maintenance and Engineering Manager)

The Plant Engineer is responsible for overseeing and optimizing plant operations. This role involves managing the maintenance team to ensure equipment reliability and minimal downtime. The ideal candidate has a strong background in industrial maintenance, particularly within the food industry. They will analyze plant performance, propose improvements, and collaborate with the operations team to deliver high-quality products safely. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Develop and execute a comprehensive maintenance management plan for the facility.
Build and mentor the maintenance team to achieve high performance goals.
Oversee the operation and maintenance of plant utilities (wastewater, cooling, heating, air compression).
Monitor maintenance expenses, make adjustments as needed, and report on progress.
Create and manage work schedules, track project performance, and handle various administrative tasks.
Identify and address potential risks to ensure projects are completed within budget.
Manage the procurement and maintenance of maintenance equipment.
Participate in long-term planning and budgeting for facility improvements.
Identify opportunities to invest in equipment or processes to increase plant profitability.
Maintain open communication with other plant departments to optimize overall plant performance.
Establish and manage relationships with external contractors and vendors.
Evaluate the performance of maintenance supervisors and take corrective action as necessary.
Represent the plant's interests in discussions with corporate engineering.
Collaborate with plant management to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Use data analysis to assess financial performance and make recommendations.
Communicate findings and recommendations to plant management.
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or any engineering discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of progressively more responsible positions within the industrial maintenance field and minimum five (5) years within a food processing industry.
• Extensive background in ammonia refrigeration, steam generation, air compressor technology, chain drives, all types of conveying systems, rendering systems (batch or continuous cookers) variable frequency motor controls, maintenance of sanitary conditions. Job responsibilities typically require extended hours.
• Problem solving skills, good decision-making skills and attention to detail.
• Able to work in an independent environment
• Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skill and maintain a good working relationship with Management.
• Strong skills in business judgment are also important in situations where data may be thin.
• Advanced skills in Excel with knowledge of spreadsheet functionality including V-look-up, pivot tables, charts, graphing and macros.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively.
