Job Summary


The Assistant Dining Manager for Food Truck Operations assists in the daily management of 4 Ohio State Food Trucks: Thyme & Change 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0. Each food truck will be full-service, utilizing mobile app or kiosk ordering systems and offering multiple menus on rotating schedules. Each operation serves approximately 300-600 customers per day. The Assistant Manager supports with the recruitment, training, and management of approximately 40 part-time student cooks and 10 student drivers; supports menu planning, service standards planning, and execution; enforces health code and safety rules; monitors food truck maintenance reporting equipment issues to the Operations Manager; assists with the yearly food truck vendor license renewals. Must be able to work a flexible schedule and be available to open and close each truck as needed. Some evening and weekend work required to support events.




Responsibilities:




  • Responsible for leading and fostering a team of staff, in a diversity-valued organization, to serve and support customers in the University environment.




  • Ensures that meals are served on time and in accordance with prescribed standards; full knowledge and execution of each item is necessary to understand the assembly flow that is needed on a daily basis.




  • Responsible for overall performance management of employees within operation.




  • Oversees use of computerized food management, access systems, and mobile ordering site.




  • Evaluates and assists in developing policies, procedures and services throughout Dining Services department.






Minimum Education Required:


High School Diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.




Qualifications:



Required: 4-5 years direct customer service experience; 1-3 years of experience in food service management; 1-3 years of direct supervisory experience; knowledge of ServSafe Sanitation guidelines or similar food handler program; excellent customer service skills; ability to read and interpret documents such as receipts, safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.




Desired: Bachelor's degree in hospitality management or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience in food service; excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience working with HACCP principles; experience managing student staff; knowledge of computerized ordering systems; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

The Ohio State University's Student Life Dining Services is a premier campus dining department dedicated to serving students, staff, faculty and guests. Critical to the Residential Experience, Dining Services administers the student meal plan to approximately 15,000 residential students on the Columbus, Mansfield, Marion, Newark and Wooster campuses. This position is supporting the University Food Trucks



The target hiring range for this position is $17.31 - $22.77 per hour, and will be based on prior applicable experience. The successful candidate for this position will be eligible for premium pay in addition to base pay. Premium pay is available to employees who work a minimum of four consecutive hours after 3:00PM.
