Position Summary

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications and nominations for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor level to serve as Co-Director of the nascent Center for Cancer Health Equity Research (CCHER). CCHER is a developing initiative in partnership with the Colleges of Human Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine and the Henry Ford Health System, with a mission to advance cancer health equity through innovative research, collaboration, and community engagement.


We seek an experienced and motivated leader with an established research program in cancer biology, cancer health disparities, or related fields, who is committed to playing a key role in shaping the Center's future and contributing to a growing initiative that addresses cancer disparities in underserved populations.



Responsibilities



  • Leadership & Vision: Collaborate in defining and refining CCHER's vision, mission, and strategic priorities.


  • Research Excellence: Maintain an active, externally funded research program in cancer biology or cancer health equity that aligns with CCHER's mission.


  • Collaboration: Foster interdisciplinary collaborations within MSU, the Henry Ford Health System, and with external partners to build a robust research network.


  • Mentorship: Mentor and support junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and students involved in cancer health equity research.


  • Community Engagement: Develop and implement strategies to engage with communities affected by cancer disparities.


  • Advocacy: Advocate for policies and practices that promote cancer health equity.

    Required Degree

    Doctorate -Relevant field

    Minimum Requirements
  • Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent in a relevant field.

  • A strong record of research accomplishments in cancer biology or a related field.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in academia or research.

  • Success in securing extramural funding.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A deep commitment to promoting cancer health equity and addressing disparities.

  • Experience working with diverse communities and addressing health disparities.

  • A track record of building successful interdisciplinary research collaborations.

  • Experience in mentoring and supporting junior faculty and trainees.

  • Familiarity with relevant policies and regulations related to cancer health equity.

  • Experience in community outreach and engagement.
