This position is located in the Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science invites applications for a Research Associate II. The position is concerned with observational studies designed to improve our understanding of interannual to multidecadal ocean variability and its influence on climate. The research will involve close collaboration with scientists, engineers, and technicians at the Rosenstiel School and the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML).


Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree or higher in a science, technology, or engineering field and at least two years of relevant work experience in an ocean research environment. The ideal applicant will also have experience working aboard oceanographic research vessels conducting science and some experience operating oceanographic laboratory equipment and shop equipment
for cutting, drilling, and forming metals and other materials used for fabrication and assembly. Experience using salinometers, amperometric titration analysis systems, and reagent preparation for titration is desired. Familiarity with commercially available oceanographic instruments such as inverted echo sounders, acoustic releases, acoustic current profilers, conductivity-temperature-depth systems, autonomous underwater vehicles, and some knowledge
of other marine hardware suitable for oceanographic research applications would be a plus.



The applicant must be willing and physically able to spend up to 120 cumulative days per year at sea on oceanographic research vessels and merchant ships to collect scientific data. Most cruises will range from 2 to 14 days, but cruises of up to 60 days may be required. Such work requires a degree of physical mobility, and the incumbent may need to occasionally be able to lift and move items of up to 40 lbs during fieldwork.




Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder) in order to gain access to the required NOAA Systems.
