Job Description:
The Wooster Dairy Operations Manager serves as a member of the CFAES Animal Operations team, reporting to the Director of Animal Operations. Responsible for maintaining day to day operations and ensuring that teaching, research and Extension needs are met. Provide oversight to the Academic, lactating and non-lactating herd coordinators and 8-12 dairy staff and student employees, formulates work schedules to comply with Federal/State/University laws/regulations; responsible for employee/student/public safety; oversees building/equipment maintenance; oversees maintenance of extensive database on production, reproduction, nutrition, and health using herd management software; prepares and manages budgets; maintains SMP's and SOP's; manages operations by following IACUC rules; formulates solutions to animal and facility problems; maintains feed inventory; associates with local, state and national dairy industry, including suppliers, DHIA suppliers, milk inspectors, and other dairy industry representatives; serves on the Dairy Advisory Committee Position located in Wooster, OH.
Minimum Education Required:
Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in Animal Sciences or Dairy Science,
3 years relevant experience required.
Additional Education Desired:
Master's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in Animal Sciences or Dairy Science
Required Qualifications: Experience in progressively responsible supervisory role; considerable experience caring for dairy herds.
Desired: Experience in dairy herd research and teaching protocols, experience with breeding, nutrition, and reproduction of dairy animals.
Job Duties:
50% Supervises dairy personnel, including Lactating, Non-Lactating and Academic Coordinators, formulates work schedules; approves timesheets and leave. Maintains SMP's, SOP's and adheres to IACUC standards.
30% Oversees facility and equipment maintenance. Maintains feed inventory; submits feed orders to the Wooster Campus Feed mill. Communicates with the Superintendent of Farm Operations regarding forage needs and manure handling.
20% Performs general duties related to dairy operations including milking, feeding, and treating animals for metabolic and infectious diseases.
