This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Central Sterile Processing Department. This position is accountable for coordinating and executing education Uhealth Central Sterile Processing Departments {CSPD} and all procedural areas including nursing floors.
The CSPD Educator develops, plans, implements and evaluates educational programs to meet the needs of the Central Sterile Processing Departments. To aide in the professional development of all staff.
The CSPD Educator maintains open and active communication with the medical, patient care, infection control, and interdepartmental staff.
The CSPD Educator ensures the competency of all CSPD staff. Including computer related requirements and maintains departmental education records in compliance with regulatory guidelines. Ensures that the department meets all the regulations, standards and guidelines consistent with AORN, AAMI, The Joint Commission, CMS, CDC, OSHA, and FDA requirements as well as the hospital's policies and procedures.
The CSPD Educator oversees quality and infection control initiatives for CSPD.
The CSPD Educator provides a comprehensive and technical orientation, education, and training program for the sterile processing staff.
The CSPD Educator will coordinate the in-services, evaluations on new products and equipment. Provides quality assurance programs and the support necessary for staff in the field of sterile processing.
The CSPD Educator performs quarterly audits of employee records. Represents Central Service through consultation on interdepartmental and interdisciplinary committees and task forces.

Education:
Degree
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Accredited Certification Related Program
Certification and Licensing:
Required
Associate or Bachelor's Degree in related field (Preferred or all 4 certifications)
CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician), or Equivalent, or CST (Certified Surgical Technician)
CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist)
CHL (Certified Healthcare Leader)
CER (Certified Endoscope Reprocessor)
Experience:
Five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience. In Central Sterile Processing and/or Operating Room.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Must have a good working knowledge of Instruments, the operation/workings of the OR and be able to speak the language of the OR.
Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills.
Strong computer skills required including a working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel. Experience with an instrument tracking system preferred.
Self-starter, ability to work independently. Ability to set priorities be flexible, multi-task and meet deadlines.
Knowledge of state and regulatory agencies.
Department Specific Functions
Normal work conditions will vary and will include exposure to Decontamination, sterile processing procedures and operating room environments.
Must be able to perform return demonstration training to staff.
Must be willing and able to wear and use personal protective equipment
(PPE) appropriate to the work environment.
Work with outside vendor teams and individual staff.
Participate in department meetings.
Communicate with department managers.
Provide bi-weekly and /or monthly staff in-services.
