Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Donor Relations, the Director of Donor Relations (Recognition) manages a comprehensive donor gift agreement and recognition program in accordance with the Development Office's strategic fundraising goals. The Director oversees a team of professionals responsible for key aspects of the donor experience, including the creation and timely delivery of gift agreements, custom acknowledgments, leadership communications, and condolence protocols to acknowledge the passing of key donors and volunteers. The Director ensures that major and principal donors receive meaningful and coordinated touchpoints by developing strategies and tools.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:




Gift Agreements and Fund Management



• Working with the Assistant Director (Gift Agreements), lead all aspects of the creation, negotiation, and execution of timely and compliant gift agreements documenting the intentions of donors who give $100,000 and above. Liaise with the Office of General Counsel when necessary. Seek continuous improvement of this program, including the refinement of internal processes.


• Give council to Development and hospital colleagues on donor-named fund inquiries, including donor intent.


• Ensure appropriate pricing and naming guidance for funding opportunities and develop tools that help fundraisers leverage these opportunities for donor proposals. Consult the Stewardship Director on endowed positions, capital, and centers.



Donor Correspondence and Recognition



• Working with the Associate Director (Acknowledgments), lead all aspects of the custom acknowledgment processes for gifts of $50,000 and above. Ensure that call briefings are of high quality and that written correspondence is personal, accurate, and sent in a timely manner.


• In collaboration with the Stewardship Director and working with the Associate Director (Acknowledgments), oversee stewardship communications for donors during significant philanthropic and life events, including giving milestones and anniversaries, birthdays, and condolences.


• Supervise the Associate Director (Acknowledgments) in creating event follow-up correspondence acknowledging hosts and speakers for signature events.



Donor Recognition Societies



• Lead all aspects of the outreach strategy and membership in major giving recognition societies, including the welcome process, annual communications, ongoing stewardship, and CRM tracking. Collaborate with the Stewardship Director on ongoing stewardship for top donor families.


• With Development Events, participate in the planning and execution of recognition events for members of these societies, including any event stewardship needs.



Management and Administration



• With the Assistant VP and Donor Relations colleagues, create and implement an integrated program to thank and recognize major and principal gift donors to accomplish the shared philanthropic goal of the Academic Medical Center Development Office at the Brigham and Mass General Hospital.


• Lead a team of two, the Associate Director (Acknowledgments) and Assistant Director (Gift Agreements).


• In coordination with Information Systems and Donor Relations colleagues, ensure consistent coding and tracking of deliverables in the CRM and Workfront databases and seek to understand the ROI of Donor Relations deliverables to inform strategies and guiding principles.


• Obtain project price estimates, negotiate with vendors on pricing, and provide expenditure updates to the Assistant VP of Donor Relations to inform the Donor Relations budget.


• Represent the department on internal or external committees as required.



Other duties as assigned



Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:



• Bachelor's degree required, with minimum 7-9 years of experience in development stewardship and donor relations. Management experience required.


• Strong project management skills and commitment to customer service and quality standards.


• Demonstrated ability to develop and engage supervisees and build productive working relationships with colleagues, including senior leaders and front-line staff, throughout the Development Office and hospital.


• Experience with healthcare preferred.


• Proven ability to meet delivery dates, and handle confidential information with discretion.


• Advanced proficiency in CRM and MS Office product suite, including mastery of Excel and reporting tools within CRM and SharePoint.

• Aptitude to resolve complex problems and use judgment within defined practices and procedures, and to fully apply standard principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.


• Ability to build professional and collaborative relationships that move initiatives forward.


• Shows good judgment, professionalism, and discretion in handling sensitive information.


• Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
