Job Summary:

This is a position for an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Test Engineer. Our team provides EMC validation as well as design and troubleshooting support for Caterpillar projects around the world. If you join our team you will work on everything from sensors, controls, and displays to autonomous and fully electric machines. We have a fabulous team that does some of the most exciting work at Caterpillar, and we can't wait for you to join the team!!

What You Will Do:

  • Lead projects to demonstrate the compliance of machines with various standards.
  • Hands on investigation and troubleshooting technical issues on a wide range machines and electronics.
  • Work with a global team of experts on many subjects.
  • Design and implement new test methods and capabilities.
  • Learn, and teach others about, EMC standards used around the world.
Education requirement:

Requires a four-year degree with curriculum including radio frequency design or physics.

What skills you will have:

Effective Communications:
  • Communicate with a global team keeping clients informed of developments in the project while pulling in expertise from other teams as needed.
  • Ensure all members of the project team are aware of project status including test results and troubleshooting details.
  • Write both formal and informal test reports.
  • Explain complex technical details to experts in other fields.
Technical Excellence:
  • Operation of EMC instrumentation such as EMI receivers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, amplifiers, and network analyzer.
  • Broad understanding of how electronics work, their design and related physics.
  • Understanding of antennas, RF circuits, capacitance, inductance, RF filters, and transient responses.
  • Ability to use or quickly learn a range of software tools for communication, data analytics, and automated lab control.
Project Management:
  • Lead a small team of clients, technicians, and subject matter experts for each project both in person and using virtual meetings.
  • Under guidance, plan out the steps for a project and ensure everyone involved understands their role.
  • Track multiple projects and ensure the projects do not stall.

The location for this position is Washington, IL

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

This position will require less than 20% travel.
