The Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) has been the heart of the Indiana University Bloomington campus for more than 100 years. Everyday thousands of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests enjoy the many amenities and opportunities the IMU has to offer.
Job Summary
The Indiana Memorial Union Facilities team is responsible for maintaining, fixing, and applying preventative work all across the nearly 500,000 square feet of this IU icon.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Keeps building and facilities in clean and orderly condition
Performs heavy cleaning duties such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing refuse
Performs routine light maintenance activities, notifies management of need of repairs
Services, supplies and cleans restrooms
Collects recyclables
Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures
Moves and relocates furniture
Replaces lightbulbs
Mixes water and detergent or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications
Strips, seals, and polishes floors
Clears sidewalks, drives, and adjacent areas
Shovels snow
Keeps custodial supply closet orderly and stocked with adequate chemicals, equipment, and toiletries
Locks and unlocks building
Maintains awareness of building and facilities
Identifies and reports needed repairs
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
SKILLS
Required
Proficient knowledge of cleaning procedures and equipment
Ability to follow safe work practices
Ability to interact and communicate with a diverse group of people
Ability to perform work that requires medium to heavy physical effort
Ability to understand and follow instructions
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to use a computer
Demonstrates good attendance
Working Conditions / Demands
This position requires the ability to move about the workplace and the ability to move up to 50 pounds multiple times throughout the shift. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
