Job Description:
Position Purpose
Facilities Management is an exceptionally talented team built from a diverse group of individuals who are passionate about providing the highest levels of quality craftsmanship, customer service, and teamwork through sustainable practices and who take pride in supporting the mission of the University and Facilities Management “We Care” principle values.
Leads skilled Groundsworkers, Senior Groundsworkers, Truck and Tractor Drivers in the development and care of the campus grounds including athletic practice and playing fields. This position is considered essential. Personnel may be required to respond to campus emergencies both during and off shift.
Job Qualifications and Competencies
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of two (2) years' experience as a gardener or similar work or equivalent training in grounds care and maintenance.
One year of college level coursework in botany, horticulture, forestry, or allied field may be substituted for one year of experience.
Must possess or meet requirements for a valid core pesticide license issued by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management
Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license
Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Must possess a Rhode Island Hoisting Engineer's Limited License "B"
Must maintain required licenses as a condition of employment
Thorough knowledge of grounds procedures and the ability to explain tasks to workers.
Ability to perform the duties of Groundsworkers and Truck & Tractor drivers.
Ability to motivate others to meet production standards and help workers or supervisors to solve work problems.
Willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment
Additional physical demands and working conditions:
Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds
Ability to climb and work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and staging heights up to 100 feet.
May be required to have the ability to work in areas needing a respirator
Position is subject to pre-employment screenings
