Job Description:

Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a full-time Pre-K teacher’s assistant to help the instructor and other professionals in the Jordan Center by working closely with students in small groups to achieve instructional objectives. This position is considered a mandatory reporter for the Department of Human Services.

Essential Duties

The following list is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all responsibilities, skills or working conditions associated with this position.

  • Works with students in small groups on a specific concept/skill according to the students' skill level
  • Assists with large group activities, field trips, and other special programs/activities for students
  • Works with individuals or small groups to reinforce material introduced by teacher
  • Provides programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by the instructor
  • Guides independent study and other work assigned by the instructor
  • Reports student problems to the instructor and assists with student problems
  • Assists with breakfast, lunch, snack, cleanup, lavatory, clothing, personal hygiene and wash-up routines
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

One or more of the following is required: 

  1. Five years of work experience in a publicly funded Pre-K program as defined by at least 20 hours per week for 180 days each of those years (experience will be verified by the Maryland State Department of Education's Division of Early Childhood);
  2. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential (or the ability to obtain the credential by August 2027); and/or
  3. An associate degree (or the ability to obtain one by August 2027)


Minimum requirements: 

  • Excellent organizational, self-starter, human relations and verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, parents and associates
  • The ability to use classroom and instructional equipment
  • The ability to complete a minimum of six clock hours her year of continuing education
  • Preference will be given to applicants with an associate degree and/or a current CDA credential

Other requirements:

  • Applicants must be at least 19 years old and hold current infant and child CPR and first aid certifications
  • Prior to placement into the classroom, the successful candidate must pass criminal and child protective services background checks, provide an acceptable pre-employment medical report, and receive approval from the Maryland Department of Education, Office of Child Care
  • Based on new regulations, the successful candidate must obtain a CDA certification, an associate degree, and  demonstrate five years of documented experience in a publicly funded Pre-K program by August 2027 to remain in the position during the 2027-2028 school year

Supplemental Information

This is a full-time grant-funded 10-month support staff position with excellent fringe benefits.  The starting hourly rate for this position will likely fall between $20.82 and $23.95 per hour.
