Tenure-track Assistant Professor, Department of Agriculture, Landscape, and Environment, Crop Production: Agronomy / Horticulture
The Department of Agriculture, Landscape, and Environment at the University of Vermont invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor in Crop Production: Agronomy / Horticulture. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) 9-month, tenure track position with a 45% teaching, 45% research, and 10% service appointment. The faculty member is expected to establish an independent, competitively funded research program, resulting in national recognition. Research should focus on the study of crops in sustainable agricultural and food systems. Areas of interest may include but are not limited to agronomic (row crops, cereals, grains, forage, etc.) or horticultural (fruits, vegetables, herbs, etc.) production. The successful applicant will join a growing and vibrant department whose mission is to expand and integrate knowledge on the sustainable management of agroecosystems and environmental design within multifunctional landscapes, while reducing the environmental footprint of agriculture.

Responsibilities
Successful candidates will demonstrate the capacity to:
Develop a nationally recognized research program relevant to the state and region
Obtain external funding to support their research program
Publish their research findings in appropriate refereed journals
Teach 2-3 undergraduate-level courses annually. Depending on the experience of the candidate, courses they may teach could include: vegetable crops; small fruit; forage crops; grains production;
diversified farm planning; precision agriculture; farming for climate change; or crop and seed production systems
Effectively collaborate with diverse groups of colleagues, students, community partners and Extension System specialists
Embrace principles of inclusion, accessibility, and equity in teaching, research, collaboration, and mentorship, which will help foster diverse, inclusive, and collaborative teams that aspire to the tenets of Our Common Ground.
Build partnerships that enhance student engagement opportunities
Provide service at the departmental, college, and university levels

Qualifications
Qualified applicants should hold a Ph. D. in agronomy, crop science, horticulture, plant science, agroecology, or a related discipline. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the inclusive excellence of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service.

(2) Academic C.V. including teaching, publications, internal and external funding, and service activities.
(3) Two-page research statement that notes the applicant's areas of expertise and background experiences, and how these align with possible research opportunities within the field of sustainable
agriculture
(4) One-page teaching statement indicating how the applicant's teaching philosophy and teaching methods/style facilitate inclusive excellence that will engage a diverse student population, which will help foster diverse, inclusive, and collaborative teams that aspire to the tenets of Our Common Ground.
(5) Names and (e-mail) addresses of at least three references who may be contacted after the initial application review. The names of the references must be entered into the UVMJobs application, and the reference letters will be collected upon request and managed via that system.
