Job Description:

Position: Treatment Nurse

Job Summary:
The Treatment Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive dermatologic care to residents, coordinating with the healthcare team, and ensuring quality care standards are met. This role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating dermatologic conditions, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of care. The Treatment Nurse will also participate in training, policy development, and assist in resident care transitions.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Resident Care & Documentation:

    • Conduct thorough assessments of residents' dermatologic health, including regular skin examinations and evaluations using techniques such as inspection, palpation, and observation.

    • Diagnose and treat common dermatologic conditions such as decubitus ulcers, skin abrasions, fungal, viral, and bacterial infections, as well as benign skin tumors and other lesions.

    • Develop and implement personalized care plans in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Care Plan Team.

    • Provide written and oral reports on resident status to the attending physician, Medical Director, or Director of Nursing (DON), ensuring clear communication regarding care needs and recommendations.

    • Document treatment outcomes and any changes in residents' dermatologic conditions in residents' medical records.




  • Collaboration & Communication:

    • Actively participate in facility committees (e.g., Policy Advisory) as assigned by the Administrator, contributing to facility policies and care protocols.

    • Engage in regular communication with physicians, nursing staff, consultants, and family members to ensure cohesive, patient-centered care.

    • Confer with the Medical Director and DON on dermatologic care issues, ensuring alignment with facility goals and clinical standards.




  • Dermatologic Care & Treatment:

    • Provide therapeutic dermatologic treatments under the supervision of a physician, including care for uncomplicated dermatologic disorders as directed.

    • Ensure residents with decubitus ulcers receive appropriate care, including regular skin inspections, turning schedules, nutritional support, and proper wound care.

    • Offer direct nursing care during emergencies or health crises, maintaining residents' comfort, dignity, and psychological well-being.

    • Monitor and adjust care plans based on evolving resident needs and treatment responses.




  • Training & Education:

    • Participate in in-service training sessions, sharing knowledge about dermatologic care practices with staff and staying up-to-date with industry advancements.

    • Attend continuing education programs to maintain licensure and enhance professional expertise in dermatologic nursing care.




  • Resident Admissions & Transitions:

    • Assist with the admission, care, and discharge of residents, ensuring smooth transitions and emotional support during each phase.

    • Collaborate with families and external healthcare agencies to ensure comprehensive care during admissions and discharges.




  • Quality & Compliance:

    • Monitor and maintain an adequate supply of skin care products and medications, ensuring the availability of necessary treatments and supplies.

    • Adhere to facility protocols for infection control, including reporting any occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, or hazardous materials.

    • Report any suspected violations of protected health information (PHI) confidentiality, in accordance with HIPAA regulations, and assist in the investigation of any breaches.




  • Resident Advocacy & Safety:

    • Ensure that residents' rights, including their right to refuse treatment, are respected in accordance with facility policies and advance directives.

    • Investigate and report any complaints or grievances from residents, taking appropriate action to resolve issues and maintain resident satisfaction.

    • Report any allegations of resident abuse or property misappropriation, in compliance with regulatory requirements.




  • Teamwork & Relations:

    • Foster a positive working environment by maintaining collaborative, respectful relationships with team members, residents, and their families.

    • Support other healthcare personnel to achieve departmental goals and maintain effective interdepartmental communication.



Qualifications:

  • Current RN/LPN license in good standing.

  • Experience in dermatology, wound care, or long-term care nursing preferred.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care and confidentiality.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move residents and equipment as required, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols.

  • Capable of standing, walking, bending, and performing other physical tasks as necessary to provide care.
