CobbFendley is seeking a OSP Designer in our Sandy, Utah office.
QUALIFICATIONS (Required)

QUALIFICATIONS (Desired)
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics preferred.
Experience in either the engineering, construction, or telecommunications industries is a plus.
Knowledge and experience with telecommunications engineering standards. Capable of identifying issues in the field that would have a potential to impact network design.
Able to collect necessary data from the field for determining a design including all necessary OSP features.
Fiber networking and cable routing.
GO 95, GO 128, NESC, CPS Energy requirements.
Experience with interpreting cable or substructure designs.
Knowledge and experience with telecommunications construction techniques
Able to identify and suggest all types of construction methods within ROW, identify assumed public ROW, visually identify existing utilities.
Fiber construction operations/management/provisioning experience.
Basic Knowledge of Make-Ready Construction
Able to identify potential cable moves and, guying and anchoring requirements to make room for new cable attachments.
Able to effectively account for all information that is required to attach to a pole and complete all necessary measurements and photos.
Experience in estimating existing utility locations.
Experience in UDOT Utility Permitting Standards.
Ability to learn and utilize new programs/technologies for engineering/design production & analysis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Collect relevant aerial and underground utility information and accurately document existing measurements and placement with traditional hand methods or with technologies such as IkeGPS or Katapult.
Determine ideal locations for new facilities and equipment.
Develop accurate fiber/optical network construction surveys.
Conduct new substructure site surveys and site walks.
Determine existing and new locations for fiber optic cables.
Inspect the work of construction contractors.
Accurately depict new construction route opportunities.
Take pictures of job sites, pole conditions and other relevant structures or landmarks.
Make hand drawn sketches of recommended engineering design while in the field or facility.
Upload clear images files, hand notes, and sketches and edit for quality and cohesiveness.
Conduct pole loading analysis using software such as oCalc, SpidaCalc, or PoleForeman.
Conduct Communication and Electrical Make-Ready design/engineering based on NESC, Client, and Pole/Facility Owner requirements.
Perform independent research adapt to changing priorities.
Work in a collaborative team environment and deliver accurate work product that is error free.
Adhere to CobbFendley’s safety standards to uphold a safe and efficient environment.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
Work Environment.Most work is performed in a professional office environment. Some trips to client offices and outdoor environments for observations will be required.
Office Conditions.Includes extensive use of electronic devices such as computers, printers, copiers, scanners, plotters, and telephones. Additionally, tasks may involve the use of cutting tools and equipment like rotary paper cutters and plotting devices.
Outdoor Conditions. Includes walking and climbing on uneven surfaces, exposure to extreme weather conditions (heat and freezing temperatures), noise, and exposure to allergens (e.g., pollen, dust, cedar, sumac, poison ivy).
Safety and Equipment Use. Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, along with handling electric power tools, cutting tools, plotting equipment, rotary paper cutter, and other equipment.
Driving and Vehicle Use. May involve driving large pick-up trucks with attached trailers, potentially operating watercraft, and for extended periods of time.
Noise and Allergens. Potential exposure to high noise levels and various allergens, including poison ivy, sumac, dust, pollen, and cedar.
Wildlife Hazards. Potential exposure to wildlife hazards such as animals, insects, and plants.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM CST/local time zone.
This position may include the need for overtime hours.
