The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager.
Position Specific Summary:
The Assistant Nurse Manager on Neonatal Intensive Care Unit manages direct care nursing functions to assure that health services, medical care, medical/health professions education, and evidence-based practice research programs are delivered effectively and efficiently. Positions in this job family will have direct patient care responsibilities. Efforts will focus on planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and improving health care operations, clinical and education programs of clinical departments.
Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday evening and night shift flexible to meet units needs, one night shift staffing requirement per week
Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, Iowa

Education Required:
Baccalaureate in Nursing is required
Required Qualifications:
Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire
Minimum 1 year current or recent (within the last 12 months) experience in inpatient neonatal nursing
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent problem-solving skills, decision making, and critical thinking skills
Proficiency with computer software applications (such as Microsoft programs)
Demonstrates time management, organization of workload, delegation, attention to detail and thoroughness
Collaborates and develops effective interpersonal relationships with nursing staff, medical staff, interdisciplinary teams, and other hospital departments
Demonstrates effective teaching skills for staff and patient education
Professional job-related experience fostering or promoting a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment where people of all backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed and appreciated; or demonstrated the ability to do so
Desirable Qualifications:
Current experience managing/leading transitions in care
Knowledge of UI and UIHC policies, procedures, and regulations
Experience working in a large academic medical center
Experience working in a union environment
Certification in Neonatal Nursing
