The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for the treatment of inpatient hospital and inpatient rehabilitation patients under the supervision of the Physical Therapist in compliance with licensure standards. The Physical Therapist Assistant works with an interdisciplinary team contributing to patient goal development and identifying barriers to discharge. The assistant provides patient centered care and assists the Physical Therapist in planning and organizing the plan of care for the patient.
Essential Job Functions:
Orients patients, family and/or other appropriate parties to the purpose and procedures of the physical therapy evaluation and treatment. Provides appropriate patient/family education and teaching, under the supervision of a Therapist.
Obtains and documents appropriately all required and pertinent patient information, including precautions, orders, and initial plan of care.
Selects and performs evaluation and treatment methods which correlates to the age of the patient, the patient's diagnosis, symptoms and physician orders and documents per chart and review standards.
Coordinates treatment schedules with disciplines using appropriate scheduling procedures.
Identifies significant changes in patient's condition and takes appropriate actions, as evidenced in reporting, staffing consultations and documentation.
Completes patient's charges according to treatment provided within the required timelines.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
