The Austin American-Statesman /statesman.com, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is hiring a meteorologist to join our extreme weather team.
Austin is the 10th largest city in the United States and a marquee international destination for dining, entertainment, music, technology, and year-round festivals. Our weather plays an outsized role in the community conversation, and it impacts the way we live.
Since 2021, we have had deadly snowstorms, debilitating ice storms and constant heat waves that routinely take our temperatures to 105-plus degrees. With such unpredictability, we seek a meteorologist/MMJ who can produce stories across multiple platforms with context.
Some days, the reporting and publishing will be in real-time. In other instances, we want to advance severe weather as it approaches Austin and Central Texas, home to more than 2 million people.
The ideal candidate loves weather reporting and storytelling. The meteorologist must be comfortable on camera, able to write, shoot and produce compelling graphics, as well as report accurate forward-moving stories.
We operate in one of the most competitive weather markets in the country. And the Statesman is a trusted source for weather information. Readers turn to us, in English and Spanish, for push alerts on the latest weather threats and reach us across multiple platforms, including statesman.com, Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp.
