A Day in the Life
We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Medical Affairs Specialist, focused on creating content to ensure Healthcare Professionals (HCP's) are knowledgeable on the safe and effective use of ACM products and drive the Acute Care and Monitoring (ACM) Medical Education and Medical Science strategy, owning and developing learning pathways, organizing Medical Education events, and developing faculty. This individual will also be responsible for designing and implementing strategic metric dashboards and reports and managing strategic projects that align to ACM Medical Education and Medical Science. This individual will partner with team members, cross functional partners and business leaders to understand ACM Med Sci needs, identify process improvements, and implement changes. Project responsibilities will span multiple functional areas including Medical Education, Medical Science and HCP & Society Relations. This individual works under the direction of the ACM Director of Global Medical Science, Medical Education and Economics.

Location: Strong preference for candidates to work hybrid from Boulder, CO. A remote working arrangement from the U.S. may be considered for the right candidate.

Travel: less than 15%

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • Influence the design of product education plans based on business strategy with a significant focus on functional results

  • Design and influence creative and engaging HCP education programs, that are targeted, purposeful, and increase knowledge and skills

  • Maintain key opinion leader relationships with special emphasis on identifying and retaining clinician faculty of the highest quality, integrity and effectiveness for Medical Education

  • Apply Adult Learning Theory and design principles (ADDIE) for all learning and development projects

  • Ensure timely updates to the course curricula to reflect changes in product offerings and market demands

  • Frequently provide guidance and coaching to other HCP and MDT faculty

  • Motivate, influence and lead cross-functional teams to achieve common goals and objectives

  • Anticipate, identify and resolve high-level problems associated with completing projects and executing programs

  • Drive innovative education methods across digital and virtual platforms using LMS and authoring tools

  • Organize and execute Medical Education Programs

  • Identify and provide Medical Science and Medical Education strategic metrics, as defined by the business, in dashboard and report structure

  • Partner with HCP and Society relations manager to execute nomination, selection, and utilization review process

  • Work collaboratively with marketing, clinical, medical education, medical science, and other cross-functional partners across ACM develop new processes, quality standards and increase efficiency of the team

  • Work in all systems that align to Medical Education, Medical Science, and HCP/Society engagement

  • Ensure medical education and medical science programs meet company and customer objectives

  • Effectively communicate with various audience types including but not limited to medical education, sales training, marketing, regulatory, clinical, engineering, and field marketing managers

  • Ensure personal understanding of all quality policy/system items that are personally applicable. Follow all work/quality procedures to ensure quality system compliance and high-quality work

  • Develop strong and ongoing relationships with sales, marketing and clinician partners by attending education programs, society and congress events as needed

  • Maintain a high level of competency in disease management, and Medtronic device therapy application and related systems through continuous learning (i.e. seminars, self-study, workshops, literature review, etc.)

  • Ensures all activities are compliant with Quality System requirements.

  • Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies, or governmental regulations.

  • Maintains a deep understanding of the science behind our products.

  • Develops competitive intelligence in our product space.

  • Drives education and outreach for safe and effective use of our products.

  • Develops, implements and oversees integrated evidence-based medical affairs strategic plans for relevant Medtronic organizations.

  • Utilizes advanced subject matter expertise to provide medical input to various functions (General Management, Global Strategy & Portfolio Management, Business Development & Licensing, Research & Development, & Marketing) and organizational units to facilitate insightful decision-making and enable achievement of business objectives.

  • Ensures effective objective value propositions are developed and articulated for Medtronic technologies to stakeholders (patients, health care providers, payers, government agencies, health technology assessment organizations, public) through appropriate channels.

  • Additional tasks as assigned

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of medical education, clinical, or sales experience

OR
  • An advanced degree with 5+ years of medical education, clinical, or sales experience

Nice to Have


  • 7+ years of medical education experience

  • Experience developing educational content and curriculum

  • In-depth knowledge of medical curricula, clinical practice, and educational methodologies

  • Ability to collaborate across departments and with healthcare professionals to ensure educational programs meet the needs of learners

  • Medical Industry experience preferred

  • Exhibit strong time and project management skills

  • Exhibit strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing requirements and priorities

  • Self-motivated to make recommendations and initiate assignments that will improve business processes

  • Can support flexible work hours to support Medical Education, which may include evenings, nights, and weekends

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$134,400.00 - $201,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
