The Research Assistant (RA) program at the Boston Fed is a two-year program designed for recent college graduates with a background in economics, math, statistics, or related fields. RAs work with economists on a variety of research projects and provide support for ongoing analysis of the New England, U.S., and global economies and monetary policy, as well as bank regulation, the payments system and financial markets.

This position is responsible for providing high quality technical and analytical support in the form of data acquisition and analysis to one or more research economists..

Search for/obtain data and literature by using various on-line and published sources and by contacting potential sources outside of the Bank. Determine reliability of data and present the information in a form that can be easily interpreted by the economist(s). Design programs to manipulate data, perform statistical tests, and run regressions. Update and maintain data series regularly used by the economist(s). Prepare charts and tables using various spreadsheet and graphic software packages, (Word, Excel, Freelance Graphics), for publications, presentations, and briefings to the President and Board of Directors of the Bank. Prepare written summaries of data analysis and literature reviews for the economist(s). Answer public information calls Proofread, edit, fact-check, summarize, and comment on articles and papers. Frequent contact with data providers, department and Bank staff, and general public.Perform other duties as assigned.This position is not required to directly supervise others.Knowledge and experience normally acquired through, or equivalent to, the completion of a Bachelor's degree in economics, computer science, mathematics, or related field. Experience with statistical software packages and understanding of statistics and econometrics. Strong analytical, communication, and organization skills. Prior research assistant experience preferred. All employees assigned to this position will be subject to FBI fingerprint/ criminal background and Patriot Act/ Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) watch list checks at least once every five years.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work required of this position.
