Job Summary


The Welder is responsible for completing assigned welding tasks as part of a team to produce customer fabrication orders accurately and on schedule. The role emphasizes maintaining high productivity and safety standards while adhering to all company safety protocols. The Welder reports to the Operations Manager and may be supervised daily by the Production Manager or Supervisor.


Job Responsibilities




  • Welding Operations: Set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, including shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment. Perform welding on components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions


  • Safety Practices: Operate safety equipment and adhere to safe work habits to maintain a safe working environment


  • Preparation and Assembly: Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies before welding using tools such as straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers


  • Inspection and Measurement: Examine workpieces for defects and measure them with straightedges or templates to ensure they meet specifications


  • Material Handling: Weld using various materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron, and other alloys. Prepare surfaces by cleaning and removing contaminants


  • Tool and Equipment Selection: Select and install torches, tips, filler rods, and flux according to welding specifications or the types and thicknesses of metals.


  • Process Monitoring: Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent issues such as overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material


  • Technical Reading: Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan and execute welding operations


  • Marking and Tagging: Mark or tag materials with job numbers, piece marks, and other identifiers as required


  • Maintenance and Repair: Detect faulty equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors. Clean or degrease parts as needed and repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts


  • Fabrication: Fabricate products to match production specifications, including material thickness, width, length, and welding procedures


  • Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned to support production goals


Qualifications




  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of industrial fabrication welding experience; ability to pass a weld test may be required


  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and follow blueprints and job specifications


  • Technical Skills: Basic computer skills and familiarity with welding tools and equipment


  • Education: High School diploma or GED required; vocational school or related on-the-job experience preferred


  • Attention to Detail: Careful attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks


  • Dependability: Reliable and responsible, with a strong commitment to fulfilling obligations


  • Adaptability: Flexible and adaptable to changing work conditions and tasks


  • Independence: Capable of working independently and managing tasks effectively


  • Physical Examination: Ability to pass a physical examination for vision, hearing, and mobility


  • Reliability: Demonstrated reliable work history


  • Attention to Detail: Must be detail-oriented with a strong focus on precision and quality in all tasks
