Samford Universitys Howard College of Arts and Sciences invites individuals interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for the position of Assistant Professor position with a specialty in engineering physics, applied physics, physics, or engineering beginning August 2025. This tenure-track, full-time faculty position is a 9-month appointment with a twenty-four (24) credit hour teaching load per academic year.
Qualified candidates will either hold a Ph.D. or be ABD, near completion, in physics, engineering, or closely related applied field from an institutionally accredited university (or equivalent) at the time of appointment. ABD candidates will be appointed at the rank of Instructor with commensurate salary until the terminal degree is completed. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students, research, and scholarship, as well as service to the community, university, or discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in mentoring undergraduate research, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and a dedication to supporting students' academic and personal growth.
Primary responsibilities for the position include teaching introductory courses in physics and engineering as well as advanced courses in engineering or applied physics; the development and maintenance of an active research program that involves undergraduate students and contributes to the departments goals of scholarship and service; and serving the students through advising and the department through participation in departmental, college, and university committees.
