Summary

The University of Wisconsin-Madison's Center for Teaching, Learning & Mentoring (CTLM) seeks to hire an experienced university educator to serve as a Program Manager to lead course and curriculum transformation initiatives. This person will join a passionate and committed team that is working with UW-Madison instructors and departments to improve student learning by advancing the craft of teaching.

As a Program Manager in the CTLM Campus Partner Engagement group (CPEG), you will contribute in three main ways:
1. Manage CTLM programs - You will manage CTLM's IEC program as well as the intake process for instructor consultation requests that are submitted through our web form, email, and other channels.
-Delegate tasks to staff and track progress
-Provide leadership in developing programmatic strategy, documentation, and assessment
2. Lead curricular and course transformation projects (e.g., Include Engage Challenge Program https://ctlm.wisc.edu/get-support-with-teaching/#:~:text=Introducing%20Include%20Engage%20Challenge-) - You will guide course and curricular transformation projects with departments, schools, and colleges.
-Guide individual instructors and instructional teams through all phases of curricular and course transformation processes, from vision to implementation, including supporting teams in centering equity in their course designs and teaching practices
-Apply knowledge of evidence-based teaching practices and organizational development research and principles
-Promote collaboration and effective communication and provide guidance, leadership, and implementation support
3. Contribute to CTLM development - You will participate in CTLM and campus working groups to help the center realize our collective mission.
-Contribute to a positive work culture by collaborating with peers and leadership and participating in community-building opportunities and cross-campus collaborations
-Engage in ongoing professional learning in the scholarship of teaching and learning, innovations in higher education, campus initiatives, instructional technologies, and facilitation skills

This position reports to Associate Director for Campus Partner Engagement of CTLM.

CTLM is part of the Division for Teaching and Learning (DTL) along with the Office of Academic and Career Success (OACS), the Wisconsin Institute for Science Education and Community Engagement (WISCIENCE), the Morgridge Center for Public Service, the Rebecca M. Blank Center for Campus History (CCH), Indigenous Education/Our Shared Future, and the Student Learning Assessment (SLA) office.

We are seeking an individual who can:

Responsibilities:

Provides management and oversight for instructional design, technology, and/or development functions for a unit, division, or institution. May provide instructional design, technology, and/or development services directly to faculty, staff, and other customers. May supervise staff and manage related budgets.

  • 15% Develops and maintains knowledge of the specific and unique needs of the unit, division, or institution. Develops or assists with the development of strategic planning initiatives and objectives
  • 20% Provides effective project management and overall coordination of project teams to meet deadlines
  • 10% Serves as the subject matter expert and unit liaison to internal and external stakeholders providing operational and strategic information and representing the interests of the unit, division, or institution
  • 15% Provides instructional design and/or technology services and support directly to faculty, staff, or other customers
  • 5% Advises unit staff in the areas of learning theory, instructional design models, assessment, and instructional methods
  • 5% May monitor the unit budget and/or approve expenditures
  • 25% Manages faculty development and engagement programs
  • 5% Pursues professional learning related to inclusive teaching, student engagement, and course and program improvement

Tasks:

  • Manage and lead select teaching and learning initiatives for CTLM; assign tasks to academic staff and track progress
  • Lead multi-year course transformation projects; guide instructional teams; provide resources, expertise, and feedback on change processes, teaching practices, assessments, learning activities, and learning environments
  • Document and assess support provided through specified CTLM programs, including collecting data about teaching and learning practices and their outcomes; collaborate with CTLM's evaluation team on these efforts
  • Develop strategy for course transformation program development
  • Facilitate meetings and regular working sessions with instructors, departments, and other staff
  • Work closely with members of CTLM's Campus Partner Engagement Group (CPEG) & CTLM leaders to explore and implement an array of tasks, including collaborating on colleagues' projects, developing new CTLM programs, responding to requests for support
  • Contribute to the development of the CPEG organizational culture and practices

Education:

Required
Master's Degree or PhD (any field)

Qualifications:

Required (at time of hire/cannot be trained):
-At least 2 years experience teaching credit-bearing courses in higher education
-At least 5 years experience leading and/or collaborating on complex projects with diverse teams including administrators, instructors, and other partners
-Demonstrated ability to foster and promote the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, including interacting reflectively and building partnerships among colleagues with different identities and backgrounds and in different settings
-Effective organizational skills and attention to detail
-Effective communication skills including group facilitation and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred:
-Demonstrated experience providing instructional consulting/support, instructional design, support for curriculum development, or instructor training
-Strong working knowledge of current teaching and learning literature and evidence-based practices
-Ability to facilitate organizational change and communicate about organizational change with stakeholders
-Demonstrated experience managing staff formally or in programs

  • Contribute to CTLM programs such as 1:1 instructor support, classroom observations, instructor development workshops, and others as assigned
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning and reflection in the scholarship of teaching and learning, innovations in higher education, campus initiatives, instructional technologies, and facilitation skills

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%
This is a hybrid position that will require you to work at our Madison, WI campus at least three days a week.
