Job Summary:


Serve as part of the Office of Student Engagement team to provide innovative and collaborative learning opportunities to empower all students at Ithaca College to feel a sense of belonging, explore their passions, and make a difference. Create, manage, and present leadership education programs for students. Coordinate the design, development, and implementation of co-curricular volunteer programs. Advise active student organizations and oversee leadership recognition experiences.



Supervision:


This position reports to the Director of Student Engagement.  This position provides day-to-day direction and guidance to student staff assigned to the Office of Student Engagement.


Job Responsibilities:


  1. Provide direct assistance in the delivery of student focused social and educational programs and services and coordinate the Student Leadership Institute certification program, including presenter recruitment and management, workshop scheduling, facility reservations, marketing, participant management, and website maintenance. Work closely with academic schools and student affairs departments to ensure that the program runs effectively. Plan and present program sessions for the Student Leadership Institute.   

  2. Serve as advisor to the IC After Dark student organization and ensure delivery of alternative weekend programming to the campus community, with a focus on first year and residential students. Meet weekly with the executive board members of IC After Dark to provide guidance and support for collaborative programming, member recruitment and retention, and other campus-wide efforts.   

  3. Serve as advisor to the Senior Class, meeting weekly with the executive board, cabinet, senior week planning committee, and other programming teams. Attend Senior Class and Senior Week events to provide supervision, following the policies outlined in the Adviser Agreement. Advise students on budgeting, contracting, and programming initiatives.

  4. Coordinate Emerging Leaders Weekend for first year students that focuses on developing skills for campus jobs and other leadership roles. This includes oversight of the planning committee, event marketing, participant recruitment and selection, development of programs sessions, and coordination of all logistics.  

  5. Work with student leaders to oversee events planned in the Campus Center that are presented by various student organizations.  

  6. Assist in the hiring and training of student employees and in orientation and training for staff and student employees as requested.    

  7. Participate in the overall budget planning process for the Office of Student Engagement and assist in managing the Campus Center operational budget to include running reports and reconciling purchases.  Manage the process for awarding the Peggy R. Williams Award for Academic and Community Leadership, Office of Student Engagement scholarships and awards, and coordinate the annual Co-Curricular Symposium.  

  8. Implement methods to assess the effectiveness of leadership and volunteer programs. Develop and implement reflective activities to measure learning outcomes.  

  9. Serve on the Jumpstart program team, Leadership Scholarship Selection Committee and Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee. Work with campus offices and external sites as appropriate for these programs.  

  10. Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful College community.  Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students and visitors to the College.  Promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.   


Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of experience in higher education administration developing and coordinating leadership programs or related activities; experience with program design or event planning; experience advising student organizations; strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment; ability to plan and facilitate training and development workshops, ability to work independently and as a member of a team, and flexibility to work nights and weekends are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, database management experience, and ability to learn new software is required. Experience working with leadership programs on a college campus, an understanding of leadership development theory, previous supervisory experience, and a master's degree in a related field are preferred.  



Work Environment:


Most of the work of the incumbent is carried out within a generally accessible, safe, indoor environment.  The incumbent will be required to operate a personal computer and associated equipment such as computer printers as well as other office equipment used in day-to-day operations.  The incumbent will be required to attend workshops, conferences and meetings on and off campus and during and after normal business hours and must be able to walk or drive or make alternative arrangements.  It will be necessary for the incumbent to work and/or attend trainings and building programs in the evenings and weekends; schedule flexibility will be a necessity.  The incumbent will to assist setting up furniture and equipment for events, thus the ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and perform physical work for up to 2.5 hours is necessary.  


This position is 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.
