Sustainable and Resilient Solutions (SRS) is a business entity within Michael Baker International. The SRS focuses on MEP+ Building Engineering Services with a focus on Energy and Water Conservation, Carbon Neutrality, Resiliency, and Distributed Energy Projects. As a Mechanical Engineer in the SRS, this individual will be responsible for providing mechanical engineering expertise. In this role, the successful candidate will design the mechanical aspects of projects, work with the senior mechanical engineers on projects and work with our project managers.
DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International seeks a Technical Manager for our San Diego Mechanical Team within the Sustainable and Resilient Solutions (SRS) vertical. Under general supervision, this person will manage the work effort, performance, and career development for themselves and several direct reports. They will also act as a technical resource to the entire team on mechanical and plumbing engineering matters. This individual will support proposal pursuits and lead projects with support of junior staff; project types include various Private Sector markets, Federal-DoD, Federal-Civilian, and Federal-DoE, as required by the department's workload. This position is open in the San Diego Office.
As part of our Mechanical Engineering Design Team, you will primarily provide planning, design, and construction support for a variety of projects related to a variety of building types. You will provide input to the preparation of RFP documents, construction drawings, and specifications. You will build and maintain important relationships with the team, customers, subcontractors, and vendors.
Management Duties
Manage staff utilization by scheduling, monitoring, and revising assignments.
Likely participate in interviews for new positions within the mechanical team.
Conduct bi-weekly one-on-ones with direct report(s).
May work directly with Human Resources and Management on performance issues, talent management, and succession planning for direct report(s).
Assist with setting and tracking progress for direct report's(s') performance and career development goals.
Conduct end-of-year performance reviews and merit increase recommendations for direct report(s).
Participates in internal and external professional development activities.
Technical/Engineering Duties
Be a resource for peers and junior staff on technical questions.
Lead and/or contribute to the mechanical engineering design efforts on multiple projects.
Prepare complex studies, calculations, reports, construction specifications, and other supporting documentation.
Provide training on specific topics to select individuals or the entire team.
Satisfy project requirements by ensuring that quality standards, schedules, and budgets are met.
Perform internal technical reviews (ITRs) when needed.
Stay knowledgeable of trends and current developments within the mechanical and plumbing engineering field(s).
Business Development Duties
Review scope of work, create pricing and technical documents, and develop fee estimates for proposal pursuits.
Present project proposals and updates to clients.
Grow revenue from existing client base through ensuring high quality work product and regular client interactions.
Identify and win new work from new clients occasionally.
Communicate with clients to understand their needs and provide technical expertise.
Ensure client satisfaction through effective project delivery.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS The following provides a list of professional requirements for this position:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering (Mechanical Focus)
15+ years of related professional experience required.
2+ years of DoD experience preferred.
PE license required.
LEED AP, CPD, and/or CEM credentials are recognized, but optional
Managing or supervising experience required.
Familiarity with IMC, IBC, and other applicable codes, as well as design manuals and standards relating to mechanical and plumbing engineering.
Familiarity with Unified Facility Criteria (UFC) applicable to mechanical and plumbing engineering preferred.
Familiarity with Unified Facility Guide Specifications (UFGS) applicable to mechanical and plumbing engineering preferred.
Be in-office at least 3-days per week, Tuesday through Thursday preferred.
Travel occasionally, as required.
Other duties as assigned by management.
COMPENSATION The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $200,000 annually.
