Internet Systems Technician
Assist in the installation, maintenance, transfer, connect/disconnect and repair of cable television and Internet services in coordination with other GEUS departments. Maintain all aspects of the system, i.e. construction of new and existing internet network and related nodes and RF (analog and radio frequency) equipment, programming and installing field equipment, signal amplifiers and power supplies. Work on ground equipment as well as aerial (12+ feet and higher) network structures.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Be responsible for the installations, maintenance, replacement and repair of field-based internet equipment in an ISP (internet service provider) environment, as well as in house headend (server/fiber supply room) based server/fiber switch racks and equipment.
Fiber splicing, fiber identification and fiber/equipment documentation.
Performs duties of position with minimal supervision, occasionally requiring guidance from higher levels of authority. Relies on previous experience and capability to use tools and equipment to achieve the objectives of the position. Thorough understanding of policies, procedures, and regulations applicable to position.
Complete assigned work in the scheduled time frame, i.e. installs, disconnects, and service calls.
Required to work an on-call rotation.
Required daily to turn in ALL customers information, i.e. work orders, install quote sheets.
Required to work in all elements of weather. Must be able to lift or move objects greater than 50 pounds. Must be able to work aloft.
Required to train in all areas of cable/Internet operations, as well as provide training to lesser trained employees.
Makes day-to-day decisions regarding customer cable/Internet services.
Multi-tasking, ability to work under stress, and ability to get along with other employees.
Regular attendance and punctuality are essential.
Must follow the Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) guidelines as specified in the GEUS Safety Manual, i.e. boots, hardhats, gloves, safety glasses, body harnesses, and clothes.
Troubleshooting and resolving customer issues related to cable and Internet services.
Installing, repairing, and upgrading cable modems and other customer equipment.
Performing cable line installations and repairs.
Identifying and resolving cable network outages and disruptions.
Maintaining and troubleshooting internet and video headend equipment.
Managing and configuring cable modems and IP addresses.
Performing network maintenance and troubleshooting.
Assisting with fiber optic splicing and network infrastructure projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
High school diploma or equivalent. Technical/Networking college degree a plus.
Specialized training and certifications in related field desirable.
Demonstrated proficiency in use of all tools and equipment appropriate to job responsibilities, i.e. OTDR, signal strength meter, fusion fiber splicers, etc.
Appropriate license to drive mid-sized trucks.
Understanding of cable television and internet technologies.
Understand cable node and modem maintenance.
Knowledge of IP addressing and network troubleshooting.
Knowledge of fiber optic splicing and network infrastructure.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good problem-solving and customer service skills.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Work is often performed in awkward or uncomfortable positions involving stooping, climbing, pulling, bending, reaching, and the handling of tools or material of sufficient weight to cause additional physical stress.
Work is primarily outside. The employee is required to work outside in inclement weather only to restore cable and High-Speed Internet service.
Pay Rate: DOQ plus benefits Full Time Employment
