How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:

Clinical/ medical background strongly preferred; LPN preferred. Position will be split between Giles and Tazewell and will require travel to both sites.

Assists Manager, Director, Carilion Clinic Verification Services (CCVS) and co-workers to provide initial/reappointment/update credentialing verifications for employed, external, contracted, and locum tenen providers/facilities/entities of Carilion Clinic and associated Health plans. Assists Manager, Director, CCVS, and co-workers with collection and review of applications for completeness and assists with facilitation of gathering provider background information and copies of documentation as appropriate to provider credentialing and privileging.

  • Assists Manager and Director of CCVS in coordination of all Carilion Credentialing and Verification Services activities; follows directions and acts on own initiative as required
  • Assists with processing, updating, and reviewing initial and reappointment applications for completeness on employed, external, contracted and locum tenen providers and performing verification of credentials in a timely and accurate manner for the facilities/entities of Carilion Clinic and associated Health plans as needed
  • Assists with maintenance of tracking report of all initial applications and reapplications currently being worked to manager
  • Assists with reviewing and assessing initial and reappointment applications once completed and identifying credentialing and/or privileging concerns
  • Assists with providing meeting management support for Carilion Centralized Credentials Committee (C4)
  • Assists with accurate entry and updating of all applicants in credentialing software system and creating/rendering reports from software system
  • Assists with working with department chairs, section chiefs, directors, managers and/or lead providers to provide progress, changes, and feedback in relation to any provider

What We Require:


Education: Bachelor's degree required

Experience: Minimum three (3) years' experience in Medical Staff Services, Credentialing, Provider Recruitment, Provider Enrollment, Provider Onboarding, or related field. Clinical, medical terminology background and/or experience with peer review/medical staff meetings.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) and/or Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM) preferred

Other Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to function in a demanding, highly dynamic, and fast paced environment
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, manage time, and work on several projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work with a variety of office software programs including but not limited to Windows, MS Office Suite, Adobe, and Cactus or other credentialing software
  • Ability to compose and edit correspondence, reports, and minutes
  • Ability to be able to function independent of constant supervision and be self-directed and detail oriented
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication and other problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with medical staff members, physician office staff, hospital employees and co-workers
  • Ability to adapt to flexible work schedules and frequent interruptions
  • Ability to understand and have working knowledge of the organization, medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, policies, applicable accreditation standards, and federal and state regulations
