We are seeking a Civil Engineer III to join American Tower's U.S. Tower division's Engineering department's Specialty Engineering team. The team develops infrastructure designs to support the construction of a diverse group of telecommunications facilities including civil site and small data center solutions. These designs include, but are not limited to, civil engineering for access roads, small- to medium sized buildings, fiber and copper infrastructure, electrical power plants, battery backup, etc., all of which aim to build a scalable and robust infrastructure for deploying network solutions.
Day to day responsibilities include the end-to-end ownership of engineering-related tasks for land development projects for various types of communication infrastructure, namely data centers, cellular telecommunication sites and broadcast facilities. You will support internal and external resources to ensure completed designs meet or exceed technical requirements and enable the successful construction and implementation of these communication facilities. In this uniquely dynamic role, you will gain valuable experience, mentorship, and skills on a wide variety of projects that are rewarding to complete.
What You Can Offer Us
Perform with limited supervision engineering tasks for medium- to high complexity project scopes related to civil engineering, building design, or network infrastructure design using engineering tools such as Civil3D, Revit, and/or iBWave.
Develop additional tools as needed specific to your discipline.
Act as a project manager and technical resource for project stakeholders for multiple types of infrastructure design and lead program types within your discipline.
Prepare training documents and ensure repeatability with design knowledge for less experienced engineers and peers.
Work closely with the team manager to assign projects, disseminate performance metrics, and escalate the need for resources.
Prepare construction drawings for civil/site, equipment room/buildings, and network designs that comply with building codes, AutoCAD standards, and engineering principles with high level of proficiency in all tools utilized for the specific discipline.
Lead design strategy for discipline-specific decisions for assigned programs and complicated projects.
Collaborate cross-functionally across departments; represent the team when managing site-specific designs and program type.
Contribute to improving design standards and documents and participate in construction specifications meetings and updates.
Continuously learn new industry concepts and technologies and apply them within the team.
Understand and implement appropriate specialty engineering design/analysis requirements (access road layout, grading, and stormwater; retaining wall and slope stability design and analysis; building structural, power, code, and HVAC design; fiber, power, RF connections; and racking, monitoring, etc.).
Collaborate with the sourcing team to develop or update program-specific vendor work scopes as needed for requests for proposals for various field or design services.
Other duties as assigned.
