Job Description:

The Department of Earth Sciences at Binghamton University invites applications for a tenure-track position as assistant professor in the field of geohydrology. We seek a broadly trained earth scientist who uses hydrology to investigate critical societal concerns. Specifically, we envision hiring a geohydrologist who collects physical and/or chemical hydrologic data from surface and groundwater field sites and analyzes that data with appropriate techniques to investigate changes in hydrologic systems, whether natural or human-induced. We seek an active scholar who can add to our current research at the intersection of environmental geoscience and global change and interact with Binghamton's First-Year Research Program (FRI) streams in Environmental Visualization and Biogeochemistry.

Requirements:

The successful applicant would teach an introductory-level course with a water focus, an intermediate undergraduate level field-based environmental hydrology course, and an advanced/graduate level course in their area of specialty. The successful candidate will develop an active grant-funded research program and supervise undergraduate and graduate students at the master's and doctoral levels. A Ph.D. in geology, earth science, or a related field is required at the time of appointment (August 18, 2025). Post-doctoral experience, including teaching experience, is preferred. The position will start in Fall 2025.

The Department of Earth Sciences is committed to building a diverse and inclusive teaching, research, and working environment, and welcomes individuals from a range of identities, life experiences, socio-economic backgrounds, and educational experiences. We have achieved success in creating and fostering an inclusive environment and intend to continue on that trajectory. Applicants who share these principles, particularly members of groups underrepresented in the earth sciences, are strongly encouraged to apply. Binghamton University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
