Job Description


The School of Public Health and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (www.umass.edu/sphhs) is seeking talented applicants for a full-time, non-tenure track lecturer position (9-month appointment) in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences to teach in, contribute to the development of, and coordinate a new graduate certificate in the area of access, disability policy, and advocacy as the department documents interest in and refines plans for a new, related Master's of Public Health (MHP) degree program. Opportunities exist for summer teaching, which would be compensated for in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. The initial appointment period is two years with the possibility of renewal.




Essential Functions


The successful candidate will be responsible for providing in-person and/or online teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, will contribute to the creation of a curriculum for a new graduate certificate with a focus on access, disability policy and advocacy as the department documents interest in and refines plans for a new, related Master's of Public Health (MPH) degree program. The position will include release from teaching for any assigned administrative responsibilities. Providing service to the department, university, community, and profession is also expected, including participation on committees, projects, and other activities that support the university, college, and departmental mission.





Requirements



  • Exercises considerable initiative, leadership, judgment, responsibility and decision-making.

  • Candidates must meet one of these profiles:

  • Hold a PhD in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences or a related field with expertise in access, disability policy, and/or advocacy.

  • Hold a PhD in Public Health, Policy, Disability Studies, or a related field, and be able to teach courses in audiology or speech-language pathology.


  • A demonstrated record of teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level is preferred
