General Statement of Duties: Responsible for operation of sewage treatment plant equipment, including making minor repairs to equipment, collecting and testing of sewage samples, monitoring control panels and adjusting valves and gates, recording data regarding sewage treatment plant to operations and perform related work. Duties also require performing trades worker duties as required, operate and maintain campus swimming pool, and operate, maintain and repair campus HVAC equipment as required. This position is designated as "Essential Personnel" who are required to respond to work when a campus emergency or event is declared.
Qualifications and requirements: Applicant must have knowledge of principles and practices of wastewater treatment and of the various types of wastewater treatment facilities. Applicant must possess knowledge of the standard methods, materials and procedures followed in sewage treatment plant operation, including repair and maintenance, knowledge of the types of equipment used, safety practices and procedures followed in sewage treatment, and knowledge of the terminology, symbols and standard abbreviations used in sewage treatment. Knowledge in the use and maintenance of small hand and power tools, and the use of precision measuring devices and instruments such as gauges. Applicant must have the ability to understand, explain and apply the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards and guidelines governing assigned unit activities; ability to maintain accurate records, and to assemble information in accordance with established procedures. Applicant must possess the physical stamina and endurance to lift and carry heavy objects and climb high stairs and ladders.
Applicants must have at least one year of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of mechanical, electrical and related equipment in a water or sewage treatment plant, stationary power plant or pumping station, or an equivalent combination of a certificate of completion of a program in wastewater treatment from a recognized school above the high school level; education toward such certificate will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
Applicants must possess the following licenses and certifications: Valid Massachusetts Driver's License; Current and valid Operator's License Grade 3-M issued by the Massachusetts Board of Certification of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators; Current Pool Operator Certification as required by 105 CMR § 435.17, or acquire same within one year of hire.

Salary: Grade 16/Step 1: bi-weekly $2,075.77; Annually $53,970.02. The Academy offers a generous benefits package.
