This role will provide support for the Geographic Information System (GIS) used throughout ALLETE. Through a multitude of maps and applications, users can see and interact with spatial data that spans the service areas served by ALLETE and its affiliates. The successful candidate will collaborate with many departments across ALLETE and its affiliates to support the GIS and its users while maintaining the integrity of the GIS.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate, design, analyze, integrate, control, and defend Geographic Information System (GIS) data and mapping products under limited guidance.
Independently solve complex problems and serves as a resource to less experienced staff.
Provide leadership in project development and processes to ensure GIS tasks are on-track and timely data integrity protocols are followed.
Provide user support through research, analysis, and processing of advanced specialized GIS processes.
Serve as a liaison between departments using GIS and ITS to ensure that appropriate and effective interfaces are identified, prioritized, and implemented.
Ensure operational standards are met, data interfaces are effective, and data integrity is not compromised.
Develop and implement training programs to ensure effective use of systems and related processes.
Ensure that system specifications and interfaces are documented and maintained.
Use best practices and knowledge of internal and external business issues to improve products and services.
Analyze and defend data in permitting and licensing processes before agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the general public.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Geography/GIS, Science, Engineering or related field PLUS eight years of progressively responsible GIS-related work experience. OR
Two-year GIS related degree/certificate PLUS ten years of progressively responsible GIS-related work experience. OR
Possession of the GISCI certification (or another nationally recognized GIS organization) PLUS twelve years of progressively responsible GIS-related work experience.

This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on ALLETE's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee's position will be a blend of work performed both in-person and at an offsite location such as an employee's home office. This position will report to Duluth or Eveleth, MN

Strong information technology skills required
Advanced skill in the following areas:
ESRI's ArcGIS software suite desktop
Desktop productivity tools (MS Word, Access, Excel, etc.)
Professional certification in GIS through GISCI or other nationally recognized GIS organization is preferred.
