Our Lonza site in Houston is seeking a Manufacturing Science and Technology Scientist I. As a member of the MSAT Team (Manufacturing Science and Technology), this individual is responsible for entry level technical support for manufacturing processes in Viral Vector.
Key responsibilities:
Will utilize the process flow diagrams, learned expertise, and transferred data to create detailed, step-by-step manufacturing processes under the supervision of a senior MSAT scientist and/ or a technical writing supervisor.
The main contribution in creating the detailed process in this role will be, under to the guidance of a senior MSAT scientist, authoring the production records for Operations to define and assure the planned, predictable performance of the manufacturing process on the manufacturing floor. The individual’s role will continue to develop from process instruction creation/ technical writing for engineered processes at Level I through to Project Leader for all technical aspects as a Senior Scientist.
This person will perform portions of process transfer from either PD Lonza or from customers. This individual will do this commensurate with their experience and under GMP conditions.
The position will support new product introductions (technology transfers) as well as ongoing manufacturing runs by correcting errors noted in previous runs and occasionally observing processing on-the-floor (under the supervision of a senior scientist) to ensure operations occur as anticipated.
The individual learns aspects of various processes and process analysis techniques, and applies them, and begins the journey from individual contributor to subject matter expert in either upstream or downstream processing.
This person will report to a Senior MSAT Scientist
Key requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemical, Biomedical, or Chemical Engineering in a Biological Science or Chemistry; Bachelor’s degrees in other hard science disciplines may be considered with relevant experience. Educational requirements must be met.
This is an entry level position; 0 – 3 years of biotech industry exp. is expected in this role.
Industry experience, if any, should be in process development or GMP biotechnology manufacturing operations consisting of:
GMP manufacturing support (Viral Vector or Cell and Gene Therapy preferred), current Good Manufacturing Practices, US / EU regulations.
Basic knowledge of cellular biology, cell culture, scale up, mass transfer, bioreactor operation, and / or depth filtration, tangential flow filtration, chromatography, viral filtration; buffer and media production understanding; aseptic processing
Strong communication, technical writing, organizational and interpersonal skills; strong computer skills (including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.)
Demonstrates critical thinking skills in problem solving and decision making, Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
