We are recruiting for Special Education Paraeducators to serve the Long Beach Elementary School and the Hilltop Middle School in the Ocean Beach School District. We have 4 positions available, 32.5 hours per week, school year schedule.
General Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Special Education Teacher, the Special Education Paraeducator is responsible for supporting and assisting students with disabilities in various school settings. The Special Education Paraeducator, consistent with the individual education plan (IEP) or individual family service plan (IFSP) assists the Special Education Teacher with lesson plan preparation; one-on-one and small group instruction; classroom management; student observation and assessment; and communication with parents and staff.
Salary: The full salary range for this position is $19.66 - $24.44 per hour. Newly hired paraeducators will be placed on steps 1 - 3 of our salary schedule ($19.66 - $21.04 per hour). Step placement will be based on years of verified paraeducator or teacher experience.
Essential Functions:
Assist the Special Education Teacher, consistent with IEP or IFSP goals, in lesson plan preparation; one-on-one & small group instruction; classroom management; student observation & assessment; communication with parents and staff, in a variety of school settings.
Supervise students.
Collect data and report student progress.
Maintain accurate data collection records.
Communicate with staff and parents as instructed by the Special Education Teacher.
Provide positive behavior management support, consistent with the IEP or IFSP.
Attend to the physical needs of students, including moving and positioning students & assisting with personal hygiene needs.
Participate in staff meetings, inservice programs, workshops and seminars.
Participate as a member of the education team. May attend parent conferences.
Minimum Qualifications:
At least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or GED.
Must meet one of the following educational requirements:
Associate's Degree OR
48 sem./72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university; OR
Passing score of 455 on the ParaPro Assessment; OR
Passing score of 220 on the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment; OR
65% on The Master Teacher, Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program
