The Caregiver is solely responsible for following and implementing the direction of zone and shift supervisors. This position ensures all youth safety in their care according to DHS/CBP policy standards and always maintains line-of-sight.
Essential Functions:
Provide care and services to youth minors, from the tender age to 17
Collection and bagging of dirty laundry
Monitor and maintain visual contact for all youth shower usage at all times, from start to finish, taking care to adhere to DHS regulations implementing the Prison Rape Elimination Act (see, e.g., 6 C.F.R. § 115.115(d)
Assist as necessary in monitoring, caring, and bathing of children
Responsible for storing Government-furnished clothing on designated shelves and issuing it to customers as necessary
Coordinate laundering of clothes, issuance of temporary government-provided clothing, and changing back into their own clothes after laundered clean
Shall maintain a safe working environment, observing and encouraging adherence to safety rules and health guidelines
Maintain inventory of clothing, towels, hygiene kits, and supplies
Shall assist with the general care of children to include monitoring, changing diapers, assisting with toilet use and hand washing, feeding, and tending to other similar basic needs of children as they arise. All duties shall be performed at a level of quality and according to industry safety standards commensurate with those required of caregivers employed at state-licensed daycare facilities in the State
Facilitate and promote the safety and well-being of assigned children
Ensure the physical safety of all youth within assigned care and area of operation
Provide general care and direct supervision of assigned children, including monitor, change diapers, assist with toilet use and hand washing, feed, and tend to other similar basic needs of children as they arise
Provide initial and daily orientation of the shower facilities of children and infants
Provide same-gender supervision for any area where youth regularly undress, including restrooms and showers escort and assist in accordance with client policies under PREA
Observe children for signs of medical or emotional distress and notify client personnel and medical personnel if required
Contractor shall assist CBP with ordering and distribution of meals to residents under their care as delivered to the facility
Maintain line-of-sight supervision of assigned children within all areas of operations designated by the client
Responsible for the area of operation within the shower area(s) and youth pods, as well as provide the care of children and infants in the following manner(s):
May be required to interact with individuals who have been determined to have a communicable disease (e.g. COVID-19, Influenza)
Monitor children using positive child management techniques including verbal redirection, de-escalation, and containment. Collaborate with other providers on behavior management policies and protocols
Treat children with dignity and respect
Facilitate and supervise daily clothing and hygiene requirements, issue and collect shower/hygiene supplies
Maintain Inventory of government clothing, towels, hygiene kits and supplies, notify client staff of low inventories that need re-ordering
Complete all required documentation to maintain a shower and inventory log, to be made available to the COR upon request
Order and distribute meals to youth
All duties shall be performed at a level of quality and according to industry safety standards commensurate with those required of caregivers employed at state- licensed daycare facilities in the State

Knowledge and Skills:
Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office
Ability to communicate and effectively learn Spanish and English during the 60-day probationary period
Ability to document processes and perform record-keeping
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to perform vigorous physical activity (bending, standing, walking, sitting, etc.) for extended periods
Ability to monitor children and keep them safe at all times

Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent, preferred
State Day Care Supervisor license and experience are preferred but not required
Experience working with children and/or adolescents in some capacity, unpaid experience, and volunteer services will be considered
Training in the following caregiver areas of responsibility corresponding to the level required of caregivers employed at a State Licensed Daycare Operation:
Communication Skills
Personal Care and Toileting
Basic Hygiene and Basic Infection Control
Maintaining a Clean, Safe and Healthy Environment
Basic Personal and Environmental Safety Precautions
Emergency Procedures, including Basic First Aid, CPR (all levels)
Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds is a plus
First Aid Certified (Training will be provided to earn your CPR & First Aid certification if needed)
May be required to interact with individuals who have been determined to have a communicable disease (e.g., COVID-19, Influenza)
Must have current DHS full and/or limited background investigation clearance
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Must be able to travel within the Continental United States (CONUS)
Must pass a background check and Child Abuse and Neglect (CA/N) check after accepting a conditional offer of employment (please note unsatisfactory results of the CA/N check may prohibit employment with DS in any role or capacity.)
Must provide proof of a negative TB test within 90 days of employment as a Caregiver
