Job Description:

Children’s Clinics is seeking a Full-Time  Pediatric Physical Therapist (PT).

As a member of the Rehabilitative Therapies Services team the PT will join a strong transdisciplinary team serving a diverse patient population consisting primarily of children with complex medical needs, including cerebral palsy, spina bifida, downs syndrome, neuromuscular disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and pediatric orthopedic conditions resulting in decreased functional mobility. The PT participates in multi-disciplinary patient care planning and staff/parent education and may participate in wheelchair evaluations and modifications, adaptive equipment evaluations and fittings, and pediatric orthopedic clinics to increase functional mobility, ROM and strength.

Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure in AZ, have graduated from an accredited Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral level physical therapy program and have a current BLS certification. Minimum two years experience with pediatric populations with very complex medical needs including neuromuscular conditions and a solid command of pediatric development. Experience with any of the following a plus: spasticity management (Botox, Baclofen, and Intrathecal Baclofen Pump), serial casting, use of adaptive equipment, wheelchair assessments, manual therapy, sensory integration, Electronic Medical Records, bilingual (English/Spanish), telehealth and Electronic Home Exercise Programs (HEP).

As a member of the Clinical Operations Team this individual will support a dynamic team of providers and staff serving a population consisting primarily of children with complex medical needs. 

This position is responsible for:


  • Provides advanced level land or water based physical therapy evaluation, direct patient treatment, consultation, and care coordination for pediatric to young adult patients with neurological, cardiovascular, sensory, and orthopedic impairments.

  • Administers age-appropriate clinical and functional physical therapy assessments. Develops therapy treatment plans based upon assessment findings and patient/family input and goals.  Continues to assess progress towards treatment goals and update treatment plans as appropriate.

  • Performs evaluations, fittings, modifications of durable medical equipment (DME); such as bracing, adaptive equipment, wheelchairs, etc.  Submits order requests for DME, including letters of medical necessity; and participates in peer-to-peer reviews.  Provides appropriate patient and family training and education in safe and proper use of recommended equipment and supplies.

  • Documents all patient assessments, treatments, consultations, patient/family education, and all relevant and required patients care information in the electronic health record in an accurate and timely manner, in accordance with clinic policies.

  • Provides physical therapy consultations for patients in assigned interdisciplinary specialty clinics; as deemed necessary.

  • Supervises support personnel in accordance to APTA and Arizona State Board of Physical Therapy guidelines.

  • Participates in new staff orientation and ongoing staff education; mentors and provides training on areas of expertise or specialty as requested by Department Manager Performs other duties as required and assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:


  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from accredited college/university required

Experience: 


  • Two years related pediatric experience preferred

Licenses and Certificates:


  • Physical Therapy (PT) license from the Arizona Board of PT Examiners required

  • AHCCCS Provider Identification Number required, may be obtained upon hire

  • BLS certification required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Knowledge of a variety of therapeutic treatment techniques for pediatric physical therapy

  • Knowledge of infant/child development and functional movement analysis as is applicable to the field of physical therapy Knowledge of fundamentals of pediatric bracing and ability to assess patient’s bracing needs independently and/or as part of an interdisciplinary team

  •  Ability to fabricate and modify lower extremity splints and serial casts, and educate patient and family in proper splint/cast care and use.  Ability to safely remove fiberglass casts using the cast saw

  • Knowledge of implementing evidence-based treatment approaches for planning and providing pediatric physical therapy; experience in measuring and reporting clinical and functional outcomes of care to parents, physicians, and other professionals

  • Ability to guide care across the lifespan including planning for transition to adulthood

  • Knowledge of corporate, local, state, and national regulatory requirements and ability to execute job duties consistent with them

  • Knowledge of various types of adaptive equipment including gait trainers, walkers, standers, bath equipment, activity chairs, wheelchairs, and adaptive strollers.  Ability to determine most appropriate option(s) and provide training and education on use and maintenance of equipment

  • Skill in professional communication with staff and physicians for optimal care coordination and patient outcomes

  • Ability to safely and effectively use electro-physiological or mechanical equipment for the provision of physical therapy care

  • Ability to operate personal computer and related office equipment as needed to perform job function

Fingerprint Clearance:


  • Employees are required to maintain a current Department of Public Safety Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card. Proof of a current fingerprint clearance card must be received within 90 days of employment.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and risk of radiation.
