Job Title: Project Manager - Renewable Energy Initiatives
Work Location: Fully Onsite in Richland, WA
Job Summary:
Lead the development and execution of diverse projects focused on non-nuclear, carbon-free generation, energy storage, and geothermal initiatives. Provide innovative resource solutions tailored to public power utilities, guiding projects from initial feasibility studies through to construction completion. Projects range from small renewable initiatives with budgets of a few million dollars to substantial conventional projects with budgets in the hundreds of millions.
Principal Accountabilities:
Project Management: Oversee all phases of development for new applied technology and power management projects. Responsibilities include identifying needs and opportunities, preparing proposals and term sheets, forming and leading project teams, hiring and managing outside technical and environmental consultants, and preparing project development and business plans.
Strategic Planning: Develop strategic plans and budgets, including project pro-formas, identify and develop project sites, obtain management, board, and regulatory approvals, manage procurement of major equipment and construction services, arrange project financing, and coordinate with Operations and Maintenance (O&M) for operating cost projections and project transition plans.
Negotiation: Negotiate term sheets, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and other development agreements with business sector manager support.
Team Leadership: Provide direction and oversight of administrative and technical support assigned to projects.
Industry Liaison: Develop and maintain industry liaisons and current expertise for assigned power supply technologies, including participation in industry committees and forums, reviewing technical journals and periodicals, and completing selected training classes and seminars.
Required Education and Experience:
Level 1: Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience in program or project management, or an associate degree and 7 years of experience, or a high school diploma/GED and 9 years of experience.
Level 2: Bachelor's degree and 8 years of progressively responsible experience in an electric public utility or equivalent environment, or an associate degree and 10 years of experience, or a high school diploma/GED and 12 years of experience.
Level 3: Bachelor's degree and 10 years of progressively responsible experience in an electric public utility or equivalent environment, or an associate degree and 12 years of experience, or a high school diploma/GED and 14 years of experience.
Desired Education and Experience:
Experience in non-carbon emitting project development (e.g., wind, solar, battery storage).
Financial modeling of investments and assessing their fit within company plans and customer needs.
Interface with experts, suppliers, and customers to refine analyses.
Stay current with technologies and market participants in the power generation sector.
Assist with due diligence activities for new generation resources.
Develop presentations, reports, and communication tools for diverse audiences.
Support the regulatory approval process as needed.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of various power supply technologies and familiarity with federal and state environmental regulations, policies, and permitting processes.
Strong management skills, including team formation and leadership, procurement process knowledge, contractor management, budget preparation and tracking, schedule and cost controls, and personnel management.
Effective communication skills, including public speaking and media interface.
Ability to interface with code and regulatory authorities.
Ability to lead technical support teams from diverse sources.
Ability to address complex project planning, regulatory, budgetary, financing, and organizational issues in alignment with strategic plans and corporate policies.
Ability to work well with diverse organizations and interpersonal relationships, functioning as a manager, leader, diplomat, coach/mentor, and teacher.
