The Director of West Natural Gas Trading/Marketing role will be responsible for planning and executing trades; managing long and short positions, risk parameters and profit and loss; providing market intelligence and fundamental analysis; managing portfolios in order to monetize the region's assets and customers; developing and implementing the regional strategy. The role will manage a physical asset optimization portfolio. Additionally, the role is responsible for the management of a team of traders and schedulers who will directly report to the Director. Key Accountabilities:
Make current day and forward day trading decisions based on market data and fundamental analysis
Provide market evaluation and intelligence to the region, by timely and accurately updating purchase and sales information in the appropriate trading systems as well as accurately forecasting profit and loss from trading activities
Review fundamental market information including weather forecasts, production, storage, power generation information to determine potential supply and demand
Optimize asset deals on a Day ahead basis
Execute and manage profitable trading positions across time frames and geographies.
Be an active participant in building the West Trading Team's relationship with Texas, as well as internal teams (Contracts, Legal, etc.)
Manage interactions with Marketing and Origination teams to help identify asset and customer opportunities in the Region
Assist in origination efforts and align transportation opportunities with potential asset management and customer deals
Lead Regional Strategy Development and assist in the development of the overall KM Gas Marketing Strategy
Assist in developing physical strategies around trading position, transportation and storage assets
Assist with ETRM implementation
Ensure compliance for themselves and team with Kinder Morgan Risk Policy, DOA, SOX controls.
Position Requirements
Minimum Requirements: Education:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
Equivalent years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years in the gas industry with at least 5 years of physical trading or originating
Prior management experience with demonstrated ability to lead a team and develop talent
Required Skills and Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of western US natural gas market infrastructure and operations
Current or previous experience natural gas trading experience in western US markets
Ability to perform in a high pressure environment
Strong bias for action and attention to detail
Ability to lead direct reports, peers, and develop others
Strong knowledge of deal structuring and hedging
Possess the ability to excel under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, rapidly process information and make decisions based on changing market dynamics
Strong networking, communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of risk management
Understanding of legal and compliance information
Preferred Experience/Skills/Knowledge (not required, but advantageous):
Prior experience with physical trading or originating in the West preferred
Experience with financial trading activities
