We are seeking sophomore and junior students majoring in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biology, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field for six 12-Week Student Intern roles in Gaithersburg, MD for a May 19th - August 8th contract period.
Position Duties:
There are six separate headcount for the descriptions below.
Cell Culture Intern:
Plan and execute laboratory studies using design of experiments.
Run small-scale production bioreactors and evaluate culture performance.
Perform analytical tests and interpret data using statistical analysis.
Present progress at department meetings and prepare a final poster presentation.
Fermentation Intern:
Perform CRISPR-Cas9/Recombineering9,10 to knock out thyA in attenuated E. coli expression strains.
Confirm gene knockout via polymerase chain reaction (PCR), next-generation sequencing (NGS), and western immunoblotting.
Clone an in-house antibody fragment (GP130 and/or ALXN1720) into an expression plasmid.
Transform and express GP130 and/or ALXN1720 in thymidine auxotrophs and compare productivity against unmodified E. coli.
Tech transfer digitalization and manufacturing data management:
Develop tools to improve tech transfer process workflows and gain efficiency for process knowledge transfer.
Improve ways of working by automating manufacturing data collection and visualization for use by cell culture development and tech transfer teams.
Generate new templates and test new functionalities to support digitization of tech transfer processes.
Position Requirements:
Undergraduate sophomore and junior students majoring in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biology, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
Candidates must have an expected graduation date after August 2025.
Coding skills such as Matlab and/or Python are required.
Wet lab skills such as cell cultures, pipetting, sterile technique are a plus.
Experience with PowerBI, Excel, and SharePoint are a plus.
Enthusiasm for collaboration, cross-functional projects, public speaking, and presentation design.
US Work Authorization is required at time of application.
This role will not be providing CPT/OPT support.
Ability to report onsite to Gaithersburg, MD for 3-5 days a week. This role will not provide relocation assistance.
Minimum grade point average of 3.0
