Position Summary:
This position is with theUniversity of Iowa Native Center for Behavioral Health. The purpose of the position is to increase the national infrastructure and the Native and non-Native workforce capacity to effectively prevent, reduce, and treat trauma and increase wellness and resiliency among AI & AN children, adolescents, and their families. We prioritize identification and dissemination of programs and approaches that seize the opportunities presented in early childhood and adolescence as an optimal time for prevention and intervention to mitigate trauma and promote resilience. Work with partners and subcontractors, several Native renowned experts, and others. This position is responsible for all program activities to include develop, implement, promote, and conduct trainings either online or in person. Establish and maintain good relationships with partners, consultants, parents, school staff, behavioral health professionals, and key personnel, including University of Iowa students, faculty, and staff; Iowa residents; parents; prospective students; and other external and internal audiences. Plan and develop trainings both online and in-person as needed, supervise undergraduate student assistants, and graduate student assistants. Public speaking is a must. When necessary, overnight travel is required. Work from home/hybrid position. The grant funding for this position end September 29, 2026.
Responsibilities:
Operational Development Implementation:
Develop, implement, promote, and conduct educational, service, and/or trauma-informed care programs of substantial complexity and impact, either online or in person. Expand implementation of trauma interventions to new pops, service systems, promote effective & sustainable interventions. Oversee the implementation of the appropriate project plan, including all training and technical assistance initiatives. Develop and present PowerPoint presentations. Host ongoing presentations with subject matter experts. Work with Native experts to provide needed trainings. Recruit and collaborate with advisors in the development of products and materials. Provide feedback, advice and support as needed. Develop materials, research, best practices, publications, articles, and products. Develop additional intervention products (e.g., protocols, manuals, training materials, etc.) to fill identified needs. Distribute training materials, brochures. Serve as expert in the field related to historical trauma, childhood trauma, ACEs, resiliency, and wellness of Native youth. Attend, support, and facilitate other trainings and workshops as needed. This includes storytelling series, IBHS, ISPED, LGBTQ+, and Trauma Prevention in Military Youth and Families. Provide and facilitate training in evidence-based projects utilizing culturally specific methods. Develop additional intervention products (e.g., protocols, manuals, training materials, etc.) to fill identified needs. Create pocket guides, toolkits, and other materials to promote and disseminate. Participate in all meetings as required. Develop and deliver tailored AI/AN Trauma training programs and best practices research. Widely disseminate findings to partners through gray literature, journals, national conferences, etc. Develop or assist in writing articles, reports, and brochures for publication and distribution. Establish timelines and due dates for specific products and trainings. Work with other TSA networks to provide cross trainings and collaboration. Provide educational services, including online trainings, meetings, listening sessions, as well as in-person trainings, symposia, and other events. Responsible for the performance of other aspects of the cooperative agreement and related contracts. Oversee all TAC activities and collaborate/direct other trauma informed programing efforts. Expand implementation of trauma interventions to new pops, service systems, promote effective & sustainable interventions. Responsible for all aspects of the overall direction of the of the NCTSI - Category II TSA. Understand data outcomes and evaluations to develop best practices and to improve service delivery. Plan and arrange logistics of all the TSA training events/projects/programs/listening session/office hours/HUB, etc. Develop and present educational programs for professional groups, symposiums, and workshops.
Communication and Outreach:
Recruit and work with Native experts to provide needed trainings. Develop and maintain a group of advisors to assist with trainings and project development. Maintain positive working relationships with professional advisors, able to provide feedback, advice and support as needed. Works closely with TSA officials and tribal leaders, critical stakeholders. Serve as main point of contact for the TSA center. Represent NCTSI - Category II TSA and related NCBH programs, projects, and studies at professional meetings, symposia, conferences, workshops, and other events. Act as liaison between the TSA and tribal leaders, the TSA network, SAMHSA and key stakeholders in the university system and at state, regional, and the national levels. Collaborate with NCTSI National Center & other key SAMHSA TA centers, including all Technology Transfer Centers. Meet with TTC staff for activity brainstorms and directing events that utilize their consultants and experience. Provide TTC staff with insight on the Trauma Grant and collaborate to create events/programs that fulfill the expectations of the Trauma Grant: IBHS, Storytelling, ISPED, LGBTQ+, and Trauma Prevention in Military Youth and Families. Engage with key stakeholders, including children, youth families, and service providers. Creating the Youth and In-the field Professional Expert Panels, developing expectations, collaborating with staff members to create forum. Assess project satisfaction of staff members, partners, and participants, solicit methods for improvement and incorporate them. Work closely with Youth and Professional Expert Panel members and all consultants involved in the project, as well as sub-contractors. Manage the overall efforts of project staff, project faculty, project assistants and consultants. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with Tribal communities and their professional staff and other key stakeholders. Collaborate with other Native Center for Behavioral Health Project Managers. Orient their projects and ideas to fit the Trauma Grant. Facilitate and contribute at monthly or as needed TSA meetings. Attend bi-weekly all staff meetings; attend and facilitate all trauma team meetings and take notes. Plan and arrange logistics of conferences, courses and training events including making travel and conference arrangements. Conduct a needs assessment survey and reports findings. Develop programs as informed by the needs assessment. Develop dissemination plans and materials to promote curricula to the Native American and Alaska Native workforce across the country. Point of contact with university administrators, fiscal officers, and grant and contract officials as well as program officers. Develop and disseminate technical assistance projects. Develop survey questionnaires and other research materials for NCTSI - Category II TSA and related NCBH projects. Conduct workforce assessments in the Native American and Alaska Native workforce across the country.
Compliance and Reporting:
Perform administrative tasks as needed. Respond to request from SAMHSA in a timely manner. Create monthly, yearly progress reports and other as requested reports to funder. Initiate and maintain records to ensure compliance with the UI IRB for assigned projects. Ensure compliance with the award agreement. Contribute to written grant applications for new NCBH projects.
Strategic Planning:
Contribute to NCTSI - Category II TSA and related NCBH efforts and provide content expertise in strategic planning. Work with experts in the development of curricula based on needs as expressed by communities during initial assessments. Create and implement goals and objectives for the center in collaboration with Director and Co-Director. Develop, update and maintain mission and vision statement; goals and objectives to determine the vision for the future of NCBH.
Financial Responsibility:
Adhere to all budgeting guidelines and programmatic requirements. Write budget justifications for proposed expenditures. Distribute invoices to ensure subcontractors, consultants and advisors are paid in a timely manner. Create and maintain spreadsheets and databases for budgeting and other grant management duties.
Leadership/Supervision:
Administrative and functional supervision over assigned undergraduate, graduate, volunteer, and other staff. Provide direction, assignments, and feedback to staff regarding projects, programs, and awareness raising products. Under the direction of the director, responsible for the entire goals and objectives of TSA center.
