University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics-recognized as one of the best hospitals in the United States-is Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center and a regional referral center. Each day more than 12,000 employees, students, and volunteers work together to provide safe, quality health care and excellent service for our patients. Simply stated, our mission is: Changing Medicine. Changing Lives. ®
UI Hospitals & Clinics was the first hospital in Iowa to be designated a Magnet Hospital (2004) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the first hospital in Iowa to be re-designated three times (2008, 2013 and 2018).
Among our hospital's 811 beds, just under 200 are designated as intensive care beds. In a typical year, we perform more than 32,000 major operations and receive nearly 60,000 emergency department visits. Opportunities for nurses abound in our intensive and specialty services areas.
The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking a Staff Nurse (RN) for the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) to assess patients' nursing care needs, evaluate effectiveness of care provided, and integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice.
The CSU is a short-stay unit with a maximum capacity of 12, providing care for medically stable adult psychiatric patients. Members of the interdisciplinary treatment team are prepared to manage patients who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis and in need of immediate, around-the-clock care and observation. The unit's open concept features a large central room with comfortable reclining chairs, rather than traditional hospital beds. Spaces for individual therapy are located immediately adjacent to the central living space. The unit provides other homelike touches, including TVs, music, and web access. Read more.
